T3 subsystem skill losses

Yesterday I came across a conversation on reddit in which a couple people claimed that the randomly chosen subsystem skill loss when one loses a T# cruiser need not be from the racial subsystem skills associated with the cruiser that was lost. For example, it was claimed, one could loose an Amarr T3 and lose a level from a Caldari subsystem skill.

The implication is very significant ... if you only fly one of the T3 cruisers, you could train all the other racial subsystem skills to 3 and greately minimize the chances of loosing a higher level skill for your ship of choice.

I've been reading wikis and googling to find confirmation of refutation of this idea, and have found neither. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've never lost anything other than the ship related skill.
That's on 3 accounts, 3 different specialized T3 pilots, with multiple T3 skills trained.
Test base of about 15 to 20 T3 losses.

They have some smart, experienced people over at Reddit, but I have to refute this one.
