It's extremely annoying when I need to travel 15 or so jumps in a Barge and every system I have to warp at least 3 times to get to a gate because the capacitor doesn't have enough charge.

I'd just buy a new barge for the new area, TBH.

The alt of my friend uses an Orca for this.

(I can fly an Orca too, but i do not buy or fly mining barges, great for moving rigged ships)

Hmmmm, that's a great point. So here's the options for general ship movement:
- Buy a new one (This is what I do for cheap stuff)
- Jump Bridges (Kinda like flying it, but better)
- Wormholes (Super Duper Awesome when you can swing it)
- Fly it (sucks)
- Haul it (Orca)
- Jump it (Carrier/SC)

Any other ideas?

Warping across Resbroko (160 AU?) in a recon is about the only time I feel the difference between 4 and 5. I only trained 5 on my cap pilots.. which means I may not have a choice but to train Liang that direction soonish. :(

Train for Carrier and Cyno your ship around FTW! I have no choice but to assume for low sec because otherwise you would not be going 15 jumps to get trit :P

Stop complaining and train up the appropriate skills. You want the game changed because you are impatient??

Actually, the OP has a point: even with max skills, the warp range of barges is gimped (roughly 100-150AU, when just about all other ships can make longer warps in one go with the same skills) due to their tiny capacitor buffer. If you are doing any extensive traveling in one, you may want to swap a med slot mod or two for a capacitor battery to alleviate the issue.

I'll have to post back later when I'm able to do some more extensive calculations (or if you have a copy of Pyfa handy, the maximum warp range of your ship is available via the tooltip for the warp speed display :)

On the other hand...this does give me an idea ;) (which I will also explore later).

Edit with the aforementioned calculations:
Tarunik's dualprop Jaguar has a max warp range of 271.6 AU. A Retriever with his skills (Energy Management and Warp Drive Operation both to IV) can only manage ~150AU, and that's with a capacitor battery in the med AND 3x SMCs for rigs; without such help, you're looking at a paltry 75AU warp range! See the problem here?

As to the idea:
[Retriever, shortwarp safespotter?]

Small EMP Smartbomb II
Small EMP Smartbomb II

Catalyzed Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters

Capacitor Flux Coil II
Capacitor Flux Coil II

[Empty Rig slot]
[Empty Rig slot]
[Empty Rig slot]

Use the smartbombs and MWD to drain your capacitor, and prepare to come out of warp at some ... funky places :) (Which is a handy trick for dropping oddball safespots when all is quiet otherwise.)
