Level 4 missions

Hello
I have been playing Eve for more than a year and i have just started training level 4 missions.
I have bought a raven with arbalest cruise missiles.
The world collide is awfully difficult and i lost my ship quickly even for the damsel in distress
Which skills do you advice me in priority?

i have got
battleship skill level 3
cruise missiles skills level 4
shield management level 4

Do you think raven is a good ship?

Well...
First i would advise you to find someone experienced enough to run these missions together. This will provide you safety-bag until you are self-sufficient.
Then eve-survival.org or other informational sites. Learn damage types to deal, damage types to tank, triggers to be careful about, etc...
Then skills. Your problem for now is tank. Get T2 invuls and hardeners, get as much range for missiles as you can (this would give you tank by range which is enough for many cases)...
etc...

And main thing: do not take seriously when people talk that you MUST HAVE all skills to 5 to even undock. This is not true.

To be fair to OP, it is most likely more than just failfit. It is more likely to be combination of failfit and failure of tactics (tactifail).

The problem of Raven is to target at short range with numerous frigates and battleships
With regard to world collide, in the second pocket, sansha fregates and battleships were very hard to hit , many ships within about 20 kilometers from me

1. Use LMJD to open up the range. (jump 100 km. in second room i usually jump up or down.)
2. Use three Rigor rigs.

One of my older raven fits:

6x cruise missile

1x lmjd
2x sensor booster (you can put targeting range script if you like to be further from the rats)
1x x-large shield booster
2x shield boost amplifier (or you can do combination of resists)

4x bcu
1x co-processor
(or you can do combination of dc and bcu, up to you)

3x rigor rigs
or
2x rigor and 1x ccc
or
2x rigor and 1x flare

As you can see this fit has some room for flexibility.

One more thing that I think often overlooked by the noobs.

HARDWARE IMPLANTS FOR SLOTS 6-10
Use them. 3% implants are not expansive, and I used to farm them from one l4 mission (not sure if that is still available at this time).

- Use tactical overlay to jump away from rats.

- raven has 93 km targeting range, use sensor booster (with or without script) or sensor amplifier to give yourself more targeting range

- there are two skills that give your missiles more range, start thinking about training them

A basic list of common core skills that are good for many things.
For the most part these are listed in the order they would appear in the market window not in an order of how they should be trained, or even if you need to train them.

I agree with the others please post your fit so we can see what you are flying.

For Damsel, you get to choose your engagement distance at warp in; don't pick 0, but rather 50-70 km until you learn the triggers/spawns. WC 1st room is easy, but as you learned, rooms 2 and 3 have you engage at close range with no choice to pick distance. Aggro control allows you to not engage a huge amount at the same time. So, the above posters have great ideas: Learn the mission and triggers from survival.org or its mirrors, take your time and pick a longer preliminary engagement range if there is a choice, keep training your skills up as previously posted to make you/your ship better.

Before you know it, you'll start getting bored with level 4s because they are so easy.

To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.

...and every time I get another piece of Carbon, I know exactly what CCP is getting this Christmas.

For a rookie, I would suggest Liang's old setup for a Raven;

Rigs:
3 X rigor, (or 2 x rigor, and 1 flare)

HIgh:
6 X Cruise Missile launchers (T2 or Arbalest) use Caldari missiles or T2 for more damage

Mids:
XL shield booster, Pith B-type is not that much (pulse it once in a while)
Shield Boost Amp II, or Iconic
2 X mission specific hardeners
1 X mission specific amp
Heavy Cap Booster with 800 charges. (with about 15 in the hold)
Large MJD, or a Target Painter, or ? (Raven back then only had 6 slots)

Lows:
4 x BCU , either T2 or Caldari
Damage Control II

Drones:
10 X T2 lights

This should work just find, don't need anything fancy.

What's with this MJD crap? L4s in a stock Raven are still cake... period. The only time the MJD could be remotely useful is Worlds Collide, second room with the 2 scramming elite frigates.

Raven (Moderate Cost, Proper Skills, Entry Level L4)

HIGH
6x Cruise Missile Launchers (T2 preferably, 'Arbalest' is you must) use rat-specific T1 missiles)

MID
100MN Afterburner
XL Shield Booster II
Shield Boost Amplifier II
2x Active Hardeners (missions specific)
Heavy Cap Booster w/ 800 charges

Notes:
1. If the missions rats are going to do EM damage, then swap out the TP for an addition, EM Ward (passive) to mitigate the additional shield damage.
2. For Worlds Collide, swap out the 100MN AB for an MJD to clear the distance BEFORE you get warp scrammed by the elite frigs.
3. I found that bringing a couple medium drones really helped in missions where there were lots of Cruiser rats.
4. If you have capacitor/fitting issues, you are not prepared to run many L4 missions... so decline the ones that you can't handle (Worlds Collide being chief among them).
5. The rigs as suggested are designed for pure mitigation of your most dangerous damage types. If you find that you are not struggling to tank the incoming damage, you may choose to swap 1 of the Anti-EM rigs, or that and the Anti-Thermal rig, in favor of a Large Bay Loading Accelerator (Increased Rate of Fire) and/or a Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst (better damage to Cruisers, Battlecruisers and elite Cruisers). Do this only after you've run all manner of missions and determined that you can tank them fine.

GENERAL ADVICE
1. Go here http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReportsLevel4 and read about the missions before you do them. The missions reports provide complete breakdowns of what you should do and what to expect.
2. Decline ALL (I repeat, ALL) missions against other empire factions (i.e. Gallente, Amarr, Caldari, Minmatar). It will wreck your standing... you don't want that to happen.
3. I did L4 missions with pretty much the above fit, minus the Cap Booster. I never struggled to tank and often only needed to pulse the shield booster until I could get out of range of the rate battleships with the AB. Only Guristas could hit me at my longer engagement ranges. If you find that you're not using the cap booster, lose it and replace with any of the following: additional Target Painter or additional passive shield ward.

I have got 97 skills for the beginning of the game
it take a long time to train and i have got plenty to buy since i plan to learn pvp within a few months but i am not in a hurry and i like taking my time
