May I recommend setting up a heavily armed starbase in Eystur, or in some other testing site? I am curious to see how Drifters respond to their targets entering a forcefield. Furthermore I would like to see if Drifters attempt to engage a hostile structure, and if so how effective they are.

Another question: Can drifters only follow to public waypoints, or can they find their targets at private safe bookmarks? If they can track ships down to these 'safe' locations, how long does it take them, and are there any signs of them engaged in scanning with probes, or onboard systems?

Don't.

Some idiots tried that in Onnamon a while back and all we found was wreckage.

Change in Behavior - Drifters and Circadian Seekers
Systems Eystur, other systems with Observatories

Date: 27/03/YC117

Jovian Observatories Identified

The structures previously known to us as Unidentifed Structures have now been officially identified by CONCORD as Jove Observatories. Extract from CONCORD’s analysis:
Quote:

CONCORD's analysis has revealed only scant and confusing information about this structure. Surveys of the damaged areas of the structure reveal a series of clearly powerful but functionally mysterious elements. The structure is undoubtedly Jove in origin but it is hard to determine its exact age given the advanced nature of the materials and construction. Regardless of its age, it is safe to say the structure surpasses anything we have previously seen.

On 24/03/YC117 we have received a number of reports from pilots. Apparently, these Observatories take or have taken some sort of damage. It is unknown if Observatory suffered some sort of internal malfunction, or it was damaged by someone.

This coincided with a drastic change in a behavior of Circadian Seekers and Drifters.

Change in behavior - CSeekers and Drifters

Just as the damage started to appear, Drifters and CSeekers radically changed their behavior.

  • They behave more agressively.
  • If undisturbed, they approach structures and use some sort of recovery device. Pilot poison iv managed to capture a holovid of Drifters performing actions on Jove Observatory. Pilots Celestia Via, Haria Haritimado and Jaret Victorian captured stills of Circadian Seekers using the same devices as Drifters. (Pictures 1 2 3).
  • We have received numerous reports of Circadian Seekers picking up corpses from space.

Antykithera Element

It has been proposed that Seekers and Drifters are the ones who caused damage to Observatories by cutting them with their beams. This theory is further supplemented by the fact that some capsuleers were able to recover Antykithera Elements from Seeker wreckages.

Pilots Julianus Soter, Dr. Saede Riordan, Dr. Frenjo Borkstar and darkezero were among the first ones to recover these devices from Seeker wreckages. This new entity suggests that Seekers retrieved these devices from Observatories. Before we were not able to recover anything from their wrecks.

Eran Mintor compared this Element to an ancient relic device and performed a linguistic analysis of its name.

Quote from his letter to Arek’Jaalan mailing list from 03/26/YC117 “Antikythera Element”.
Eran Mintor wrote:

I tried to break up the word into seperate roots. Anti*ky*thera.

'Anti' means to oppose something.

'Ky' has many different meanings depending on who you ask. One of them relates to 'this', 'that', 'this side'/'this way'.

'Thera' has it's closest relation to the word Therapeuein which means to minster to, or to treat medically.

The certain origin of this Element is yet unknown, but if it was really retrieved by Seekers, maybe we can intercept other pieces of this mosaic in the future.

Corpse Snatching

Pilots Xadiran and Bourbon Limoges observed an instance of corpse snatching performed by Circadian Seekers. If undisturbed, Circadian Seeker will approach a corpse and will pick it up in its cargohold.

Pilot darkezero managed to retrieve frozen corpses from wreckages of Circadian Seekers. It appears that these bodies formerly belonged to capsuleers.

Yatolila Koskanaiken suggested a theory regarding these events.

Quote from her letter to Arek’Jaalan mailing list from 03/25/YC117 “Just some postulation”.
Yatolila Koskanaiken wrote:

Given the damage to the Jovian Observatories, and the observed behaviour of Circadian Seekers attacking/extracting something from them, I think it's worth considering that the Seekers and Drifters might be looking for something specifically Jovian.

The capsule, as we know, is originally Jovian in design, and if the Seekers have managed to determine that (they scanned a lot of ships), it would explain the aggression toward capsuleers.

The reports of Seekers/Drifters destroying pods and harvesting the corpses of the pilots would, in my mind, further the idea that they're interested in acquiring Jovian technology, provided they're only harvesting the corpses of capsuleers.

Attempt to map Drifter presence

Several Arek’jaalan members started an ambitious plan to understand and map the appearance of unidentified wormholes and their relation to the recently revealed Jove Observatories. This centralized database was created by Kinthras and his team in order to get a deeper understanding of the wormhole behaviour and the Observatories’ distribution within empire space.

Trii Seo created a “heatmap”, "heatmap" with borders of Observatories’ distribution across the cluster.

Darkblad, Ser Ganglion and Samsara Toldya created a map of Observatories’ distribution and gathered statistics of reported losses.

Quote from his letter to Arek’Jaalan mailing list from 03/26/YC117 “Update on Observatory presence and Drifter engagements”.
Quote:

A total of 916 systems are reported to have an Observatory in System.

Between February 17th and March 23rd there were 944 losses reported (I suspect many losses to be not reported, though).

Currently, there are 1040 reported losses. The total ISK value of destroyed ships (and capsules) is 116,69 Billion.

Maps of the weekly development of systems with losses are here.

While my studies into various scientific specializations continue, Gravimetric Sensor Compensation, in particular, my extra-curricular observations of Circadian Seekers and Drifters has come to a bit of a standstill due to WAR.

I hope to continue the observations when this constraint on my activities has been resolved.

There are actually 998 confirmed Systems containing Jove Observatories. But this number feels odd, just not right. I'm sure there are two missing, thanks to the "fluctuations" of their cloak before they decloaked completely.

I believe the observatories are linked together in some way, like a giantic antenna array. Which suggests they were not necessarily observing THIS cluster. As a combined system they could have been observing something far away, like the Anoikis cluster.

I'm convinced it has to be a straight number, and there are 2 observatories missing.

And I'm determined to find them.

I strongly support Kinthras' approach. There are several reasons why the observatories can be understood as a large antenna array. I've gathered some thoughts in the subject. Review and feedback is appreciated. At the end of the day, though, we are still missing crucial empirical data. In case of the Jove Observatory Array it is a detailed radio emission profile and a deeper understanding of the observatories' interior.

As of The Scope's new broadcast, based on the message that Dr. Tukoss gives, we believe he is being held somewhere BEHIND the unidentified wormholes, now there is currently an impromptu experiment going on in Madomi to attempt to force one open using capacitor transfer devices, similar to the way Talocan Static Gates work, but hopefully something will happen.

Transmissions from Dr. Hilen Tukoss

Date: 08/05/YC117

The following document is a recap of all transmissions made by Dr. Hilen Tukoss, Arek’Jaalan Project Lead and features a brief summary of theories regarding these messages.

Transmission #1
Date: 24/10/YC116
Original Transmission: It has been some >>time.

The first transmission made by Dr. Hilen Tukoss features a large amount of hexadecimal, as noted by pilot Esna Pitoojee. Most of decryption work was done by pilots Valerie Valate and Esna Pitoojee.

Good evening capsuleers,

I hope this message finds you syntax error, search="healthy"-synonym... result="well" well.

For some time now, I have been unable to speak from my current location. I have, however, remained dedicated to the research we began together in writeconflict date/current=24/10/116 replace/string=09/07/113 YC113.

Of the team that began research on this project, I am the only one who remains. The story behind the alternateref="sequence" chain of events that have caused this is extremely complex, and in time I will reveal why the situation is as it stands now.

In the meantime, I need all the assistance I can garner, as fast as possible.

In the coming weeks, a location within 30003413/40216465=site one will become apparent where deposits can be made that may push us close to a breakthrough the like of which we have not seen since the syntax error, search="marriage"-synonym... result="matrimony" matrimony of the capsule and the clone.

When the time comes, I will call for deposits of the following, to be made to site one, in order for me to continue work.

• Blood Drop
• Bone Splinter
• Cerebral Slice
• Epidermis Sliver
• Liver Bile

Your assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated. I will be in touch in the coming weeks to give further details.

This is the first transmission I have been able to make in some time. This is Dr Hillen Tukoss, broadcasting on low band emergency FTL – I’m unsure of the exact frequency.

Site One is compromised. All staff involved with the Arek’Jalaan Project should consider it insecure and should abandon any equipment therein, consider it contaminated.

Disregard the previous communications from what appears to be my NeoCom. Their intent is misdirection on the part of those who have me restrained. DT cooperated with them in all cases.

I have attempted to make contact with Eifyr & Co to no avail, in order to relay details of my situation. It is my last hope that this transmission will be picked up by the FTL network and broadcast to the pertinent places?.

I am currently held against my will, my captors are unknown but from the few details of my surroundings I have been able to ascertain, I am being held somewhere in Anoikis. The available data that I could gather would suggest somewhere in close proximity to a Wolf-Rayet, given luminosity and gravity signatures.

It is imperative the capsuleer taskforce dedicated to Arek'Jalaan continue their work in my absence. Without my presence, the project must continue to advance with recent information --- - - received.

I believe my captors to be ----- - - - --s, fearful of the event now transpiring, and are in a state of panic.

I emplore you all to continue to further the aims of the Arek’Jalaan project and to continue to work on a solution. The fate of the project is now in your hands, and if there is any chance of communication/my escape in future, I shal/will endeavour to do so.

The fourth transmission made by Dr. Hilen Tukoss does not contain hexadecimal. The packet loss percentage appears to be 0.0% but portions of message’s contents are missing. Be advised that message's contents are heavily damaged and we are uncertain if the following decryption is correct in all cases. Most of decryption work was done by pilots Obil Que, Jukko Riis, Soldarius and members of Arek’Jaalan Community.

Report on artificial anomalies in 'Redoubt'

Date: 06/06/YC117

Location: J174618 ('Redoubt')

While attention rests heavily on the central 'redoubt' site of J174618, comrade Jaret Victorian and I took some time to investigate the few other unique features of this system. Some minor details are compiled elsewhere. I would like to focus on the cosmic anomalies which seem to be constantly present in this system.

Site 1: Ship graveyard

A coral rock formation, containing several ghost ships. We could not specify any details of their origins.
Picture 1: Ghost ship
Picture 2: Ghost ship
Picture 3: Ghost ship and coral rock formation

Site 2: 'Caged Wormhole'

This site is remarkable. It contains a violent wormhole, framed by 16 thermoelectric converters. The solid frame seems to cage the wormhole. Is it an experiment? An alayzation? Or the way how violent wormholes are created? Whatever it is, the structure appears to be fully operational and intentionally placed. A close observation shows a unique green star cloud on the far side of the wormhole, usually attributed to the Thera region.
Picture 4: Caged wormhole
Picture 5: Caged wormhole

This violent wormhole shows the same specifics as violent wormholes at epicenter sites in other shattered systems.

Site 3: 'Spacial rift generator'

This site shows two spacial rifts, usually thought to be created by Talocan stargates. The rifts are located close to each other and are framed by four partical acceleration superstructures each. Dangerously close, a Sleeper Engineering Unit is placed. The whole arrangement suggests advanced spacial experiments. It should be noted that, normally, those rifts are deadly and impossible to use. But the Redoubt site in J174618 contains permeable spacial rifts. Are we witnessing here how Drifter or Sleeper are creating and programming spatial rifts?
Picture 6: Spacial rift generator?

Site 4: Sleeper Enclave

A single Sleeper Enclave resides here, cloaked in blue dust. I could find nothing else special about it.
Picture 7: Sleeper Enclave

Site 5: Hollow Asteroid with Mysterious Probe

This site contains a hollow asteroid, modified with an asteroid station. A Sleeper Engineering Station is located beneath. Between the station and the asteroid there is a single, dormant probe, identified as 'Mysterious Probe'. Analysis shows that it is of unknown origin and material. It seems to be inactive, except a regular orange flashlight.

Report on anomalies in 'Sentinel'

Date: 06/08/YC117

Location: J055520 ('Sentinel')

As time continues, so do the efforts to explore the newly exposed drifter-stabilized wormhole systems. Given the strange anomalies located in 'Redoubt', we decided to spend some efforts on 'Sentinel' anomalies as well. Both systems are not easy to access and naturally rather dangerous to explore. So, hopefully, the following brief report will describe the basic anomaly features to those who do not have time or possibilities to go and see for themselves.

First pictures on Sentinel anomalies were provided by Dr. Frenjo Borkstar on the 2nd of June (reference). We had the chance to enter 'Sentinel' during 6th and 7th of June. It follows a brief description of the five anomalies encountered there. Hopefully, some of you will come across more peaces of the great riddle they currently present.

Site 1: Sleeper Enclave Debris

Suspiciously unremarkable, this anomaly is made up by a single, devastated Sleeper Enclave. There is nothing else to report. The damage to the structure is severe. No further hints could be discovered on the site.

Picture 1: Sleeper Enclave Debris

Site 2: Monolith and Mysterious Probe

Just like in the 'Redoubt' system (J174618), there is a site with a small mysterious probe which adds a startling accentuation. The black monoliths are well known to explorers across New Eden. This anomaly site consists only of one such monolith, and a diminutive mysterious probe, floating directly in front of the huge monolith. The probe seems to be dormant, just like in 'Redoubt'.

Picture 2: Monolith View
Picture 3: Monolith View
Picture 4: Mysterious Probe

Site 3: Opposing Spatial Rifts

Similar to 'Redoubt', this anomaly is focusing on Spatial Rift phenomena. Two artificial Spatial Rifts are located in the center of two particle acceleration superstructures. Both structures are aligned and opposed to each other. Pictures from Dr. Borkstar showed drifter vessels crossing in between.

Picture 5: Spatial Rift Superstructures
Picture 6: Spatial Rift Closeup

Site 4: Violent Wormhole Rock Circle

Not the best label, I suppose, but as descriptive as possible. Site 4 is dominated by one violent wormhole. Again, this corresponds to the 'Redoubt' anomalies. But in this case, the violent wormhole is not caged in a technological superstructure but in the center of a crude stone circle. The whole arrangement reminds me of relic sites found throughout New Eden. Though religious association is tempting, we are best advised to abstain and just except it as it is: a violent wormhole surrounded by rocks. Most remarkable detail: there is something placed in the center of this wormhole that I have never seen before. A glowing rock formation, propably. It could first be seen on a still from Dr. Borkstar in the 2nd of June. Following pictures are from 7th of June. The site revealed no further hints on what this strange rock formation may be.

Picture 7: Violent Wormhole With Glowing Rock Formation
Picture 8: Violent Wormhole, different angle

Site 5: Unknown Crystal Resource

Last but not least, site 5 shows two broken asteroids, revealing unknown crystal resources. One asteroid contains blue, the other one orange crystal structures. Closeups speak for themselves. I strongly suggest a dedicated exploration mission, lead by seasoned prospectors. Maybe those crystal rocks are known from other parts of New Eden?

Picture 9: Asteroids View

[Edit: The color of both crystal formations match the color of the stelar phenomena in the background (Pictures 11/12). This was intentionally done by me choosing the camera vector. But the color of the crystals is not the result of different light color from the stelar phenomena. The material itself is colored. Anyway, that blue and orange match the color of the Wolf Rayet system may be a coincidence.]

I encourage a detailed analysis of Vidette and Barbican sites as well.
