I have been experiencing issues getting the client to run after clicking the PLAY button in the launcher. Eve was running fine before Downtime on the 6th May.

PROBLEM: I log in to the launcher fine, and the PLAY button is yellow and pressable. I click the PLAY button, and a small client icon appears in the taskbar - but does nothing further. Eventually this program stops responding in task manager.

I do not access Eve through steam, although AVAST did pick up something related to a steam.dll file along with mumbles about a Trojan. I have since uninstalled AVAST - it was causing other problems and generally being bad. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

In an attempt to solve this issue, I have:

Re-installed 3 times,

Disabled virus protection,

Run the repair.exe file as administrator. The repair tool had one error the first time I ran it (repair.exe: error: no such option: --game_executable ) - after this, if I run the repair tool again - it appears to work correctly, however the client still will not run after play is pressed.

Ticked the box in the launcher settings labelled "Download all the resource files" and restarted the launcher,

Run the rescache file as administrator - all files verified, 0 corrupt and 0 not yet downloaded,

Run the bin exe as administrator,

Run the launcher as administrator,

Currently downloading the offline installer, but I don't think this will help much.

In all cases I log in to the launcher fine, and the PLAY button is yellow and pressable. I click the PLAY button, and a small client icon appears in the taskbar - but does nothing further. Eventually this program stops responding in task manager.

I can paste log files or whatever if needed.

If anyone can assist, it would be greatly appreciated!

I also had Avast find something and I DCed, I believe we have the same issue. Everything is as you describe it for me too.

Day 3, what now? Perhaps a clean reinstall of my whole system, REALLY CCP!

Downloaded offline install files, and ran the install - did not help.

I've run out of ideas for this one.

I'm grasping for straws here, and you may have already done this, but I know some AV applications don't get "fully" removed via add/remove programs.

I looked it up, and AVAST appears to fall under this category - they seem to have an Uninstall Utility.

If you're paranoid like me, I recommend not taking direct links for stuff like this, but rather google searching, "avast uninstall utility" - the top result should be this https://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility which looks promising to me.

Consider giving that a try if you haven't already. :)

If you've already done this, or if it doesn't help, I'll try to think of other potential options, but I'm kind of at the limit of my knowledge at this point.

Awesome - gonna give that a try right now - will let you know how it goes.

Edit: Didn't work, but thanks for trying! Any help is appreciated.

Ugh - Windows CD / product key is long-lost, so that might get complicated - but that will be the next step in a few days. Might finish my uni stuff before I do that though - at least eve wont distract me Sad

Glad you're back in-game, Dermeisen - sorry you had to do a full OS reinstall, though. :(

Blackfeathers, I have a few harebrained ideas left, but I'm not too confident in any of them - might be best to focus on your uni stuff for now - good luck with it, by the way - but I'll list a few unlikely things you *could* try, if you want - just don't get your hopes up.

I found this from some reading on the Avast Forums - something about its Firewall Drivers not always being properly removed even with the uninstall utility thing.

The post indicates any potential Firewall Driver remnants would only be an issue if you were trying to re-install Avast, but I thought it might be worth a look - here's the post about it so you can judge for yourself. :)

https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=141407.msg1145872#msg1145872

"I've also noted that the aswNdis, aswNdis2, and aswNdisFlt (XP/Win 7 drivers) sometimes remained after using aswclear.exe and needed to be removed manually. To do that, open Device Manager and click View>Show hidden devices. Then click Network Adapters. When done, change back to 'View>Devices by type' if that's how you've set it up.

If these drivers are still present even after uninstalling AIS 2014 or 2015, then they may interfere with proper operation of avast firewall, if you choose to try again. At least worth a check."

If there are no leftover Drivers or removing them doesn't help, I just can't imagine Avast still causing the issue after uninstalling normally, using the uninstall utility, and checking for remnant Firewall Drivers, unless it meddled with the Registry or something and made Windows itself no longer accept the file...... that, however, is not only unlikely in my eyes, but also well beyond my technical skill to remedy, if it's the case.

Hmmm speaking of Firewalls, I know you probably are already on top of this, but if Microsoft Security Essentials has its own Firewall, make sure it's the only one active since I understand two firewalls at once doesn't work so well.

Also, I see you tried running EVE with AV off, but did you also rule out Firewall interference?

Admittedly, the issue seems more like something is blocking the application from running, than from connecting to the Internet, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

That's it for my ideas at the moment though, I fear.

Fingers crossed you get it fixed, one way or another! :)

Nothing listed in this thread or the others helped me fix this issue.
I have since re-installed windows, and am logged back in.

Seems running the rescache script from EVE main directory fixed this for me. I did a bunch of stuff (like downgraded from latest Nvidia drivers, reinstalled EVE, cleared all caches, deleted settings and deleted resource cache) so I cant be sure it was script alone, but seemed like it was.

I was having the same problem, I don't know if anyone else noticed but lately since new updates at least for me it seems just letting it sit there for a while .. aprox 20 min's for me at least. even though windows is registering it as "not responding" in reality it is, i believe its because its still downloading and loading all the new resource files(once the actual application launches not the eve launcher). At first i thought the same thing then i got sick of it and left it there to go get some food and have a smoke and couple other things came back and it was all loaded up its done that 2x to me so far.

I had to delete and reinstall my launcher though because i thought the laucher messed up the game files because at one point it downloaded update to 96% and stayed there and wound up closing it then reopening it to finish it, but that was when it did it the first time.

But maybe that's just how it is for me, I don't know i just got back into game recently so i haven't had the issue enough to actually say if that's all it is but its worth seeing if that's all it is for anyone that may be having the same issue. just let it sit for a bit and wait even though windows says it may not be responding, check resource manager too to see if there's any changes in cpu/ram usage (pretty much most programs that actually stop responding drop to 00 cpu and ram will either drop to 0 or stays the same and never changes)

I think it has something to do with the new rescource cache thingy ccp did to help decrease the download size of the game from the launcher, that only downloads the files when it needs them as you go throughout the game. which i thought was a really good idea by ccp at least for those like me with low grade internet and that are either just getting into game or those that have to reinstall for some reason or another. Anyways if anyone else has the same problem and just letting it sit for a few does indeed fix the problem (i know sitting and watching a blank screen is boring but its better than waiting for hours to reinstall OS's or new game folder imo)

I am doing that right now, it seems to be working as there are missing files, , I'll edit this later to inform of success/failure. good call though as it seems to be working.

YAY, worked!

The re-cache script in the eve dir fixed the issue for me.
