Split stacks doesn't work on Macintosh client?

TWIMC:

I have been using the Mac EVE client for over a year, and splitting stacks has never worked for me.

As I understand it, clicking and dragging a stack with the shift key down should bring up a window allowing me to split that stack. It doesn't. Instead, when I click and drag with the shift key down, the entire UI slows to a crawl, almost freezing. Releasing the shift key allows the UI to resume at normal speed.

I haven't seen other comments about this, so maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Have just tried this on my system: iMac (24-inch Mid 2007) 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Gives no trouble at all. I DO remember though many years back this issue, using the same system, with precisely the symptoms you describe. I seem to remember it was to do a conflict in the operating system... Off hand do not recall. Do you have "Sticky Keys" on ? Or perhaps another application that is intercepting the shift key ?

Yah, I'm guessing you're right, but damned if I know what setting is causing the conflict. I've always had this behavior. I'm on an iMac 27-inch late 2012 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5, OS X version 10.10.3 (the latest). I've survived without split stacks functionality, but it's annoying sometimes.

Just one more thought: I have just bought a new magic mouse and while setting it up noted that Accessibility Preference pane meddles a lot with the UI. Maybe something has been set in there thats affecting the shift key arrangement. For example I could not double click effectively... The normal mouse pref pane was of limited value but the Accessibility pane allowed me to reduce (significantly) the double click speed. All is well now. Here is hoping that it might be something like that in your case.

I have nearly that exact setup, except that I'm running 10.10.4 and using the desktop trackpad. I've never had an issue splitting stacks. I'd definitely look in System Preferences and see if some system service has commandeered shift-drag.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't find a smoking gun, though. :-(

Accessibility features are turned off. I didn't find any setting in System Prefs that *could* use shift-drag, let alone was using it.

Oh, well. I've lived without split stacks for this long...

Ive never had this issue. I do know one thing: To get the split stack window, you need to release the mouse button before the shift key.
