Exploring exploration

So i have been thinking about going on a long haul exploration jaunt with no set goal, i feel i am missing vital elements of the game by not taking the plunge. I am a solo account and fairly casual but regular player if that makes sense my real life job work hours are not set ie 9-5 hence my casualness.

Now what would i like to do while exploring, well abit of probing/hacking and combat sites also hunting / sneaking up on other explorer's appeals to me. Pvp is certainly not my strong point in fact i am quite possibly a pvp virgin :) and the reason for that is i hate been outside of my comfort zone.

Anyway lets say my bags are packed ready to go, i need advice on what ship would be best suited for me to possibly succeed and stay alive on this jaunt, as i said earlier its a solo account so i need 1 ship, my initial thought would be a stratios but i am not sure if this would be limiting to what i could do in way of running combat sites etc.

thanks for any feedback / advice

Stealth Bombers are nice ships for this kind role, just fit it up with Rocket Launchers instead of Torpedo launchers. Also, make sure you train into a Manticore or a Nemesis, so you can keep your target tackled as well as fit 1 Relic and 1 Data analyzer. You'd also need to train up your skills for hacking, as the SBs provide no bonuses for data/relic sites. Same goes for probing. Best place to go for this would be in The Syndicate, Great Wildlands or Curse regions, as these are NPC NulSec, and are close to the HS/NS borders. Feel free to mail me in game for some more ideas about this.

Stratios would work. You'd have to watch out for gate camps and bubbles without a scout. You'd need a mobile depot to be able to run such a variety of activities.

Or T3 cruiser.

With regard to stealth bombers are'nt these quite a thin skinned ship?

Some can fit a Med shield extender however if your main prey is going to be other explorers its a safe bet they won't be fit for PvP so your tank will not matter so much. You may want to fit extra points because some explorers will have stabs fit. Go for at least 2x warp scrambler which will give you 4 points of warp scrambler strength which means they aren't getting away unless they have 4 warp core stabilizers fit.

Stratios.

It's the best ship for extended exploration runs in my opinion. I've been using it for ages now and I can't imagine using another ship for this kind of thing.

It can do everything and anything if fitted properly and with good skills.
It can hack, it can pvp and it can run combat sites of different types (deds up and including 4/10, c1 wh sites, maybe c2 and anything in between).

It has a huge cargo hold so you can carry with you half of Jita if you need (ammo, different fittings, mobile depot, beer, exotic dancers, everything) and still have enough free cargo space for any and all loot you may find on your journey.
It also has an impressive drone bay, carry a fleet of drones of all kinds for any and all situations.

Not convinced? It can also fit a covops cloak, what more do you need?

Oh and it looks sexy :)

Downsides?

Warp speed is pretty bad I think and it's not exactly the cheapest ship out there :)
