Why are smartbombs so different?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on why the same size smartbombs do different damage and have different area of effects?

e.g

Ammatar Navy Large EMP Smartbomb

Range - 7500m
Damage 375hp (em)

Caldari Navy Large Graviton Smartbomb

Range 6250m
Damage 313hp (kin)

The EM Smartbombs seem to always have the biggest area of effect and also the most damage.

Thanks in anticipation.

Don't forget the Ammatar EM one also uses less cap.

The faction ones are similar to Deadspace modules and Tier in the Meta level, but some have different properties depending on what you want out of your smartbomb (e.g more range, less cap usage, more damage etc).

easier to send an EM wave through space than a kin/therm/exp wave... okay I have no idea.

Because EM is the Amarr damage type. In the original idea for Amarr, they are better at energy weapons. So, they get an advantage with smartbombs.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

This. There are similar themes with most faction/deadspace modules. Like Caldari get the best Ballistic Controls and Shield Hardeners (cause missiles and shields are their thing), Amarr get the best armor hardeners (cause resists and armor are their thing), Minmatar get the best speed mods because once again, speed is their thing.

Therefore Amarr gets the best smartbombs because CCP decided (because lore n stuff) smartbombs are an Amarr thing.

I wonder if smartbombs will get tiericided the way things are going I'm not sure it makes sense that one version gets all better attributes. although at the same time I'm not all that worried about it.

I'd love usable and sane smartbombs, means a regular interval on ships can keep you running individual rainbow bombs without leaving large gaps.

Becasue after 3 "zomg smartbombs are weird and need uniform stats to be used properly (on gates)' in F&ID forum section, they still arn't fixed. I guess its kinda something like SOV, it will probaly take another 5 years.
