I just want to give a huge thanks to all those involved in making the game look the way it does. I literally feel like I'm in space sometimes and it's a little freaky tbh. Anyhow, after playing the game a couple weeks now, it got me to going to nasa.gov and other sites to see the real thing. I'm truly amazed at how similar the "real" thing looks like to ingame. Again, huge thanks to those who made this game.

Now I'm very new to this game and new to Astronomy, but since playing this game, in my free time I'm either reading or watching videos about the game or I take a "break" and watch videos like the Cosmos with Neil deGrasse and others and I can't get enough!

Today I find myself on Amazon looking at telescopes because being able to see what people on earth not so long ago could never imagine blows me away. I'm looking at getting the Orion Spaceprobe 130 ST. If anyone has any advice or tips in this area, would much be appreciated.

That's pretty cool. Smile

I have a couple friends here who aren't that into the game itself, but admit to staying mostly for the feel and visuals of being in space here.

Can't help with your telescope selection though. Good luck hunting/picking/shopping though!

Elite: Dangerous is way more realistic in its astronomy than Eve is.

Just sayin.

The Orion is a great starter, plus it has great optics for the money. I've had one for a few years that I take out when off site as I'm not so bothered about it getting knocked around a little.

Orion makes pretty good telescopes and the 130ST is a pretty good starter scope. I would suggest looking at getting a Barlow lens and a laser collimator. A moon filter would also be helpful if you plan on looking at the full moon because otherwise you will hurt your eyes. Yep, bet you didn't think of that. Also there is a phone app called SkyEYE that makes finding things at night really easy.

When it comes to telescopes basically the bigger the mirror the better. Now keep in mind most of the beautiful NASA pictures you see of galaxies and nebulae are false color images so they aren't going to look that way in your scope unless you get into astrophotography and do some long exposures and photoshop work.

I recently bought Orion's XX16G and even with that big of a scope galaxies still look like grey smudges through the lens. They are more detailed then my old 3" scope was but for things like the planets and moon, yeah it's pretty damn cool. Blink

This. EVE does have some amazing visuals, but if you want that feeling of zipping around in space, then you need to fire up Elite: Dangerous!
