Who gets wreck ownership?

On the eve wiki it says that from 2 players that atacked a NPC the one who did most damage gets ownership of wreck.

But, in game all players say that last hit,aka killing blow, on a NPC determines wreck ownership.

Can someone please clarify this for me? thank you

Ok so I went and loggend my alt who is in a different corp etc...and got to an anomaly togheter with my main.

I shot and npc untill i left him with like 30% structure, then switched to my alt for final blow...guess what??

Ownership of the wreck was set to my main ,who left the npc with 30% structure.
I repeated the procces this time with my alt doing the most damage and my main doing final blow.Ownerships was set to alt.

Bottom line is wreck ownership is set to the one dealing most damage.Don't beleive? Go test it

Yeah, there are plenty of people who just parrot things without actually knowing what they are talking about, this combined with mechanics changes that are not necessarily documented in a clear way means to be sure you should always test things yourself.

Wreck ownership belongs to the one who's smart enough to fit a PvP fit when doing highsec DEDs ;). If it's not yours, loot it anyway, stare them right in the eyes and dare them to shoot you, if they do, teach them a lesson.

saw this thread earlier and I didn't really care. Came back and was going to say whoever loots it first. Other day I was flying a pipeline and saw a gank happen, tried to rush over to the wreck to yoink the contents, didn't make it in time, think it was a regional gate and it was on the other side so a long flight. almost ninja'd ~800mil.
