I need help and I don't know where else to turn. I like funny pictures and I also like talking to people online. Back in my day, we used forums like this one to talk to people. Seems like all the cool kids use Reddit these days. If I want to see something funny, I know how to go to /r/funny and then click on the list of links to find funny things. If I want to learn about mental disorders, I go to /r/eve, and so forth.

However, the problem arises when I try to talk about the interesting things with other people. Please consider this random sampling from /r/gaming. At the time of writing the post is 12 hours old and has 1,846 comments. I can handle like 7 comments without a problem, but more that and it starts to become a sea of disjointed thoughts. However, I scroll down through what feels like a Sunday edition of the New York Times worth of text and sure enough people are discussing stuff from bottom to top.

Is there some plugin that turns Reddit discussions into coherent trains of thought, or do I just have a low tolerance for text? My tl;dr threshold is about 13 sentences. Maybe I have ADD?

Plz halp.

You can try out RES and see if it helps.

Hello Tilde. I installed RES. I will have to look more at what it does.

While poking around, I found Reddit Gold. Apparently if you pay reddit, they will do things like highlight messages that are new since you were last there and things like that. Do you know if RES does that? I see P2W has spread to Reddit now Twisted

Reddit was better before I had an account.

I´m an Imgurian that turned to Reddit late in the party and this is my life everyday ...

But to be honest, I actually enjoy Reddit more NOT logged in than logged in ... with time your Reddit front page turns into a nauseating reflection of how deranged your mind truly is, and how awful it is to behold it raw in its decaying putrescent sickly glow of Self-awareness.

I stopped logging in regularly and enjoy it now more when I just go to reddit.com and skim the GENERIC front page.

The Enhancement Suite is too foreign to me, but I know a LOT of people swear by it, glad you installed it, but I actually enjoy the Reddit mess that is the comments random pattern of ideas, that or I am already too far gone and am lost to the void.

But glad you in there, these days I rarely read my usual newsfeed, everything is on Reddit/Imgur like 2 days before at best or a couple years at worst before it goes "mainstream" Lol

Also reddit is the only place where I learn/watch amazing things everyday, like female corpse photo stills, cat dropping HD pictures and self mutilation scarfication tatto Art and usual switcheroos when all you want to know/watch is stuff about The Ultra Deep Field from the Hubble or the new data trend that shows population density variables in Europe ... gotta love reddit, yep ...

Good stuff! Big smile

I'm with you mate. HA HA HA, 200 posts commenting on other posts to maybe dig through. Might be a buried nugget in there, who knows? Bah. Not sure that the idea of mass conversation via of a string of consecutive posts, (with upvotes and downvotes) is has that much real value. It's pretty alien to the human brain.

If the ideas that get the most attention are the best ones, then we are all Kim Kardashian. Pshaw on that. Actual real, continuing discourse among real friends and enemies FTW. Go people, think harder and try harder! "There are always unlimited possibilities...." Jean Cocteau, Gurdjieff, somebody else, a good musician, or your old granddad.

This is pretty much how Carm lives life:

1. Is attractive.
2. Is not unattractive.

Coincidentally it's how I live mine as well.

Also depends on if you hide in usersub or not :3

/r/circlejerk is all you really need to see...

My first time on reddit I just didn't see the point, but I guess with the default pages it was a pretty meh site that just had a lot of cat pictures and silly memes. Later I signed up and joined some subs that I thought were interesting and I was on reddit for a year or two. Then for the most part it just got really stupid. I should probably go back and just unsub from pretty much everything and I would probably have some use for it. there are some subs that are rather useful, but my general dislike for the majority of the user base is just too much. Just imagine a bad luck Brian with the text "average reddit user"

there is a lot of good on reddit, but again the overall user base just ruins it for me. I get tired of seeing the same jokes getting upvotes over and over.

This explains so much. I am not funny. Or relevant.

I am, however, un-funny and very not relevant. For example, I still use Pandora instead of Spotify.

Someone please explain to me how that video managed to get 30 million views. I'm either too f*cktarded to find anything remotely interesting about it, or the world has gone utterly mad.

As to the OP, at this point in time trying to generalize about Reddit users is like generalizing about Internet users: it's become pervasive, and the default go-to place for people of all shapes, sizes, tastes and colors. Speaking about specific subreddits is a different matter though: you can think of each one as its own independent community, catering for different tastes, interests and ethos.

For example, /r/gaming is one of the most popular ones and it can be overwhelming as well as a bit of a cesspool. If you want to read / talk about games in a more meaningful and controlled manner, and don't have a taste for memes and lolcats, try /r/truegaming instead.
