Ship SKIN prices are interesting.

Remember Incarna? I think about that expansion quite a bit. All the things we were told it would be, that prototype they took around and showed people and the useless compartment we were eventually given.

And I remember the uproar about prices for NES clothing. Multiple PLEX for single items. That lost CCP players and fed protests.

We're back to that system. 30-40 $ skins for internet spaceships are now a reality. Are we really OK with this now as a community?

It's a vanity item that can put money in ccp's pocket but has no impact on the actual ship. Why would I care about the cost as if I don't get one it makes no difference to me at all.

I think a better word is ludicrous. Would love to have some, but NOT at those prices.

Yes. The ship skins didnt suck who knows how much time and money away from fixing or improving the rest of the game. The same can't be said for Incarna.

Also, true to tradition none of these microtransactions improve the performance of the character or ship in-game, so we're still safely on the other side of the fence from P2W land.

Yeah but there are substantial difference in the system and the path that lead to it.

1) They had to reprogram almost entirely the ship rendering system and how it works in space
2) People can actually see your skin space
3) The default ship skins are fine and beautyfull anyway
4) Clothes came at the cost of real content, something that's not happening at this time
5) People actually asked for ship skins

1) Utterly irrelevant. The new SKIN system was made possible by upgrades they wanted.
2) People can see your clothes when they click on your info, something that happens more frequently then seeing your ship.
3) Yes, they're acceptable.
4) SKINS are as much content as clothes.
5) Plenty of people were asking for clothes and Incarna.

Seriously, if you don't like how much the skins cost, you don't have to part with a single cent. Shut up.

Perhaps I would like reasonable prices so that I could part with my money.

Why does people arguing for lower prices bother you so much?

I've calculated all the prices using the most efficient method of buying aurum and the prices are quite reasonable if you like this sort of thing.

There are a lot of skins for $3.50, and the majority are in the range up to around $15. There are a couple that are $20 although it makes a lot of sense to have some more exclusive ones from a marketing perspective. There are only 4 skins which work out at $30 and they are all super capital skins.

In principle though I am against the idea of these not being destructible, I hope CCP will re-evaluate this in the future as in their current implementation they offer no gameplay value and are simply for CCP to generate extra revenue.

People were asking to walk in station and interact with each other's avatars. That was vastly different than the get you can walk around your captain's quarters only.

Ship Skins are not at all the same. Plus, the changes allow for faster deployment of new ship variants, with reduced database load. A new Merlin color scheme does not mean all the other stats of the Merlin must be duplicated and maintained/balanced. Instead there is one ship in the database, with skin options which is an easier load.

If you don't like, don't buy them! :)

However I do see more content released from CCP in the last year and half than in the last 10 years, and I don't mind the ship skin at all.

I'm not buying them simply because there are no ship skin for the ships I'm using atm, mainly T2 ones, but I would probably buy a Kador Paladin skin if there was one.

To conclude I also understand you posted to make drama on the forum and not to post constructively, at the moment I pushed reply everyone in this thread was positive about the system, so it looks like you are a minority anyway.

they sell -> they set the price
you buy -> you choose to buy or not

I see no problem here

I don't know about as a community, but I'm fine with it as a person.

If you are dumb enough to fly around zoomed in close enough to admire your ship, then you are exactly the type of person that will pay large for vanity skins.

But, at the end of the day, it's your choice. It affects your gameplay in no way whatsoever to own a vanity skin or not. It only affects your wallet. Buy some if you want or don't buy one if you feel it's too expensive. But for the love of Christ, stop crying because you want one but are too cheap to pay the asking price.

If this is your only complaint, be patient. Prices will balance out. When I log in tonight, I will have several copies of multiple skins waiting and only need one. What happens as I and many others dump our supply on the market? Yes, this may not be true for the newest skins, but give it time. Prices will balance. And if you are only looking at aurum costs and buying aurum to pay, you are not working the system right. But a plex, sell for isk, use that as capital and make monst trading. Later but 1000 aurum tokens and get the skin you want.

The beauty of eve is that plex, aurum, and effort can all be interchanged. A good day or two of level 4 missions, incursion running, or what could get you What you want, and then it's just a matter of finding the activity you enjoy to make that isk.

I'm more upset that CCP is still treating EvE like a cash cow and spending this money on hyping good ideas that ultimately fail due to lackluster management.

Now excuse me while I go apply these skins to make you haters jealous.

Eve a cash cow? Go look at Dust... Now there is a cash cow. It was a game on the point of death turned into a profitable money faucet to the point it has had several updates past when we were told no more. And yeah... There are microtransactions and plenty of ways to pay to improve/be stronger than someone who does not. Eve has not reached that state at all.

Sigh...

you do knwo that the summer of rage was not JUST incarnia right? That just happened to be one of the factors.

You had incarnia, which was incomplete pile of garbage, much liek alot of what i call "old ccp" features. and for people who say 18 motnhs of dev time wasted.. no, incarnia actually was a work of 3 years. Because the Ambulation project was first showcased at fan fest 2007.

Then you had the nex store, which was all well and good even with the $70 moncols, this alone would not of pissed people off.

Then you had the greed is good memo, which was one of a few floating around... this by itself would of made prolly forum uproar.

Then you had the fact that lots of eve was broken, and ccp was completely ignoring it for dust and WiS

These four factors alone would not of caused the riots. But combined? Yea..

The summer of rage was not about incarnia, it was about CCP going in the wrong direction, neglecting eve for a cash grab, becoming greedy, and then giving us 1/2 assed overpriced ****.

The current skins no matter how expesive are fine, they are vanity items, most people will shurg them off and not care. If we see gold ammo however....

(an aside this is why WiS should get a second look, but due to peopel thinkign that was the only reason for the riots, it won't)

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

I don't think you can get as much negative response as in past, basically because playerbase that stayed until now with CCP.

I salute people who will put Aurum on the table for privilage of nanocoating their ship muddy green, rather than gray. o7

well if you play enough, you can playthis game for free by buying plexes ingame with isk.

As i can see alot of people do this.... and people who really care just buy this skins, it will increase the value of the character too when you selling it.

I sound alot of money, but if you count the total income of ccp i think they need this boost to fix their crappy code.
