So even though i enjoy the gila (now with afterburner fitted) i find it a rather lazy mans ship for lvl4's i used a rattlesnake which was ok but soooooo slowwwwww (maybe i had that fitted wrong to) i have tried the golem too. my next alternative on my list is the machariel. Maybe this will turn out to be right for me, just need to finish off a couple of skills for it.

I run a dual prop rattler and its kinda funny how people argue about doing 1.4k dps and than slowboat to the next gate or mission objective.
Anyway, a "slow" lv4 mission runner is in most cases just a fitting decision. Its up to you going for full dps or make compromises for other things.

I truly don't think Medium drones are that slow... "gasps" My Vespa's take offence to such statements ShockedBlinkP

Also using a Cruiser size ship means you can get from point A & B quicker then you can compared to Battleships.
So any time lost because of drone down-time between targets can be gained from this. Also i hardly ever have to stop off for ammo pit-stops.

Damage applied in a Gila from a pvp point of view (Being ganked) , you stand a very high chance of killing everything that decides to attack you. You can't say that against a Battleship. The point is, everything has its weak points, pro's & con's.

Is a Gila the best ship to fly when doing level 4 security missions !!!.... "perhaps not, but it still does a rather decent job at it" , but it sure is something i enjoy flying P . This is what counts the most when doing something you choose to do.

All weapon systems can have a down-time.

Reloading of ammo, buying ammo
Capacitor is running low, so you can't use modules or weapons
Tracking speed / Distance from target = High chance to miss
etc etc...
