So far, as I remember, Fantasy Westward Journey had waaay more subs (as in more than 30 million) and waaaay more PCU (over 2.5Mill) than WOW.

Was in an argument with someone earlier, but so far, I might be wrong, anyone knows if the data has changed lately? PCU and Subs record are from Asian Markets, I assume its higher now ...

From a little googling it seems the game has hundreds of millions of registered users and the PCU is a couple of million. The company itself has about half a billion registered users for all its games. There aren't many good sources for that info, besides the total registered number, which comes from financial reports. FFS one site claims it had less users than the PCU record was Roll. This quote from the game developers conference 2011 might be the most trustworthy for the registered user count for the game:

Quote:
Yingfeng Ding

Deputy Director of Online Game Department & Product Director
Fantasy Studio (Fantasy Westward Journey) of NetEase

Mr. Yingfeng Ding is the Deputy Director of Online Game Department & Product Director of Fantasy Studio (Fantasy Westward Journey) of NetEase. He joined NetEase in 2002 starting from the numerical design team of Westward Journey Online II and started leading the design and development work of Fantasy Westward Journey since 2003. Fantasy Westward Journey was launched on Jan 16th 2004 and now as the No.1 MMORPG Game in China, still keeps the records of over 2.32 million peak concurrent users and more than 200 million registered user accounts as of today.

Mr. Yingfeng Ding started his journey in game industry from 1998 and he severed as chief designer of PC game named GuLong and his heroes at Shenzhen Gameking before joining NetEase.

No specific details what kind of revenue model they use though, but it seems they sell gametime and anyone who has ever played the game is counted in the registered user number.

I sometimes get shocked at seeing the huge diff in playstyle tastes from the Western to the Eastern mindset.

I can't stand WOW clones, but to be honest I have never played games like Fantasy Westward Journey. Looked like a traditional 2d SNES RPG game to me Big smile . But I understand crap about chinese, wonder if there would be english shards around.
