It's the first time I'm trying to sell a character, so I'm looking for some advice.

I've used this character to mine in highsec. Got some nice ISK with it in a system remote from any major hub. After a while I trained for a freighter in order to haul the ore to a hub. It was back in the days where compression arrays did not exist in highsec, so I had to do it in a freighter. Hauling service was not an option since it would be too expensive as I was located far away from any trade hub. Got bored with mining, joined Red Frog Freight for a while and ran some contracts.

My RL free time changed a couple of months back and I will not have time to do any of that any more. I'll be focusing on my main and PvP in the future, so naturally, this character will have to go.

Anyway, I have 21,4 mil SP on this character and the start price for the auction is 8bil ISK. I don't really need a price check, but rather an advice: Are the skills good enough for a miner and what skills are you usually looking for when considering to buy a miner?

The sale is running a bit slow, so I'm wondering if I made a mistake with the skills somewhere. In my eyes, this is a pretty decently trained alt able to use all T2 mining crystals, haul the ore himself, do some PI as a side dish and have decent drone and core/tank skills to defend himself even in null.

The other thing that I though about is whether this character is too trained for a miner? I mean, when I look at other mining chars on the market, I see considerably less trained characters with little to none core or drone skills. They seem too squishy and vulnerable to ganks, let alone ready for the null. But somehow they sell a lot faster with a pretty decent ISK per SP ratio.

The other thing I can think of is that I have Exhumers trained to 4 (2% bonus to mining module duration and 4% bonus to resistances), but I didn't thought that it could affect the sale that much.


Any advice for skills in order to sell this character faster or for better profit is appreciated.

Seriously though, I'd imagine that it is to do with the fact that the sort of person looking to purchase mining alts would rather buy 2-3 low skilled miners than 1 well skilled miner. Your extra 2% here and there is not worth the extra yield through doubling or tripling the amount of strip miners you have.

That said it will sell eventually. As Raven said, make sure you "sell" it properly, highlight what makes your toon worth the extra cost and most importantly try not to get impatient. There are a number of character traders who will happily snap it up at a knock down price only to flip it for more a few weeks later.

Last thing, I'm not 100% on this but I think that more character trades are undertaken around the end of the month as that is when most people get paid and have the RL funds to splurge on plex to buy the stuff they need in game. This means you may find more interest occurring next week than last.

Just be patient (I know, easier said than done) and make sure to bump the thread regularly.
