New default map in upcoming Mosaics release

So the upcoming Mosaics (28th April) release is meant to make the new beta map to the default map - source Seagull in the update Seagull Update.

Go play with the map either on TQ or SISI for a bit, have a think and come back.

I have found the new map to be markedly inferior to the old one. Below I have put some of the things that I found issues with, a cross list with the new map feedback thread. If you feel the same way or have new issues to bring about I encourage you to post them in the thread too.

So would our esteemed CSM reps care to comment?

For living in wh, the scanning in the new map is still a serious pain. I find it much slower than with the old map.

Issues that need fixing:
- double click on sig needs to centre view on selected sig! Apparently will be fixed soon(tm) but I'll mention it to highlight it again.
- it's slower to open with an animation. After the 5th wh system to scan I'm already over it and it gets in the way.
- the movement feels like it's immersed in oil with movement acceleration. Needs removal.
- the pointer is a circle! Use an actual pointer like the rest of the eve interface. It isn't accurate enough to comfortable drag probes around. This really needs fixing.
- I prefer my universe map flattened but the system map unflattened. This isn't an option currently. Systems don't need to be flat as they don't have much z axis variation while the universe does so it can be useful to be flattened.
- the sig location circles don't light up in brighter red when scan probe range. They did in the old map and it was useful when you had a lot of info on screen
- the probe circles location can overlie sig icon and obscure it. You can turn probe location off but it should never happen in the first place as the sig icon should take priority and be brought to the front
- the sun went away! can we have it back? it's a celestial with warp to!
- left mouse clicking on an object doesn't bring the selection option circle! This really needs fixing!
- I can't see my bookmarks any more in system viewer.
- the you are here icon jumps around instead of smoothly moving across system as you warp. Hard to drop bms where you want them in warp.
- my current system view appears to be a windowed box cutting off around the level of the capacity and modules overlay, not full screen
- opening the map up in wh space it just shows me the kspace universe. have to click on current location to bring up the system view. Tedious after the 5th wh system to scan.

As it is now, I wouldn't use the new map over the old map. It just isn't up to parity.

Tried using the new map, How do I see my bm's in space?

Is there something else I need to click?

Mine automatically show up, I assumed everyones did Shocked I think I need to have a play around with it some more. But I can confirm scanning in the new map is still a bit of a pain in the ass.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Thx for doing this.

Seems like a case of visual design > functionality... good to see some things never change :/.

Not sure it's ready for scanning. I hope the old one is still available next week. My feedback is in the other thread.

I've been toying around with the map on SiSi after reading this. My only complaint would be: *Why can't we collapse that map all the way like every other window?*, meaning doubleclick the head so it folds to a neat 400*20 bar. I'd especially love to be able to group the map together with the IGB (to have siggy/starmap in the same collapsable window).

I'd imagine that 95% of the people currently using that map colour coded by average pilots in space in the last 30mins or pirates recently destroyed. That colour coding is really wayne, since it's nigh impossible to spot someone <.<

What a coincidence. I was just telling Jack about how I murdered you live on set the other day.

This sounds horrible for an explorer, I also watched Sir Livingston's video and it seems nothing was fixed. I hope the old map will be still around for scanning. Alone the missing double click center makes it almost unusable. Ugh

Seriously, CCP, function and performance always have to have priority over visual effects.

cannot drag the pointer box around after you hit scan without moving the pointer box via the pointer as probe 1 is always on top of it.

THAT CURSOR, JUST...WHY?!

I can understand if it was a mistake or a bug, I mean surely that circle cursor wasn't intentional...

I've used it from time to time but definitely needs some tweaks. I agree wholeheartedly with the cursor.

Also I would like to be able so zoom in on a planet and see the placement of the moons as with the old system.

When selecting your options for the placement of the map, is there a reason why the Probe scanner window also doesn't move when you select the "Dock Left" or Dock Right" options? Annoying to have to move it all to time.

Lastly is there a future goal of integrating the Navigation panel into the new map? As you can dock the new map it would be useful to be able to see your direction on the map to D-Scan targets down.

Ok, I just scanned down the sigs in a WH with the new scanner, and it's got some problems.

1. The circle, rather than a cursor, means you don't know (very accurately) where you are pointing the damn thing. It needs to be a proper pointer or cross as the cursor, not a circle.

2. When the new default map pops up, it covers the Probe scanner, where all the buttons are that we use to scan. We can dock it, or make it fullscreen, but regardless, the scanner buttons need to be available.

3. When you are trying to recenter the probes, the 'white box' is normally occluded by a probe, so you can't grab it and drag it until you shift in. Also, the 'white box' and arrows do not highlight blue as they used to.

Overall, this default map isn't really ready for probing, imho.

I also really dislike the 'momentum effect' when you zoom in/out. It's fine when your sig is centered, but terrible when it's not.

When I was zoomed in to 0.25 AU, the sig disappeared. Maybe it was hidden by the probes?

It looks like the devs were more interested in gewgaws than in a functional scanning system. It's really not worth using at the moment.

So, with the last update I can finally see my BMs in the new map. And I hate it. Instead of the small unobtrusive pins I get the same pins on huge black paddle. Paddle that snaps to other paddles when they are overlapping, even if the actual BMs are AUs apart. So when I rotate my system map they snap and unsnap all the time. It's very disturbing.

Not to mention that the BMs now clutter the galaxy map as well!

Also I kinda hoped that when they decide to go out of beta they'll add all the celestials to the map! Where are the suns in WH systems???
No moon orbits visible anymore?!?

All and all I kinda like the visual of the map on the galaxy level but it sucks big time on the system level visually and functionally.

And I of course agree with the OP points.

And then there is just performance. I play eve with a pretty bad laptop and already use everything with the lowest settings possible, this new map is not my friend.
