auto approach when opening can

It's not like i havent searched the forum, but i dont see any info on it.

But it seems pretty annoying to autoapproach a can when u select "open".

Has it occurred to anyone that this should be an option in the eve settings? Instead of assuming this would be handy.
To me it not handy, when something is out of reach, i want to be able to choose to fly towards it or use a tractor beam.

This creates confusion.

IE. If someone is mining, this thing will move you away from you optimal mining spot.

I agree.

It is one annoyance I have found in all of the updates.

Especially when salvaging in W-Space where you are trying to stay aligned. Accidentelly hit open to early and suddenly you are approaching the wreck.

I double-click cans/wrecks in the overview when I'm running my Noctis alt...it's the fastest way I've found to handle loot. If I mis-click, suddenly my Noctis is attempting to drive 20 km to the wrong wreck. It's a minor annoyance, but it would be nice if "open" weren't automatically considered "approach and open".

It's the same logic as the "jump" button now being "warp to and jump". Same with dock. A single setting could be implemented that would make this new feature user selectable but don't hold your breath for it. To be honest, I like the change. Far more intuitive. Eve has a tendency to just tell the player something is impossible instead of performing the prerequisite tasks.

The difference being that you still have a button and right click drop down command to warp to a station or a gate without jumping or docking. You don't have a command for open can, oops out of range, but don't align and motor toward the damn thing.Straight

I love the warp-to-and-jump option ... gives far better visual cues for manual flying a freighter when multiboxing. big tick from me for that one.

Hadn't noticed the other one as a nuisance, and prolly not going to find it a problem. When salvaging dead sleepers i just move towards the farthest wreck, even if it's in tractor range, figuring that a moving target is harder for a covops / recon to provide a tactical warp to. I also despawn the sites (run them in batches) and warp to a wreck rather than the warp-in point ... same reasons, to reduce findability and warp-to-ability.

To lock I use ctrl-click and to open for loot i use the button in the 'selected item' panel. I guess everyone has evolved their own 'quickest' approach, but here's mine ....
- warpin to wreck at despawned site;
- commence ctrl-click target lock on first batch of wrecks;
- while they locking start moving towards furthest wreck;
- once they locked, tractor four towards me;
- once in range, open wreck (using selected item button), start salvager, hit 'loot all' button ... and repeat
- juggle tractors and salvagers as they give up their stuff and you move.
- when on four last wrecks align to next site or POS warp-to spot.

Unlike previous poster I virtually never double-click on a wreck. Only use that when I want to get quick lock and move towards a combat target in rapid succession ... ctrl-click , click, click sequence.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

You're not supposed to tell the others about this! Tricks like this should be reserved for those of us creative enough to arrive at the solution on our own :)

(I've ransomed a number of Noctis by landing in anomalies to find it being salvaged by a solo player who didn't want to risk their PVE ship)
