My guess is that the final price of skins in ISK will settle at the conversion rate Aur -> PLEX -> Isk plus at least a 20% premium for convenience cost.

Only on select SKINs, if that.

On the least popular ones you can easily discount by at least 15% - as that is the average AUR/$ exchange difference between directly purchasing AURUM and conversion via plex - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5685212#post5685212

I was hoping for 500% returns, but 2,100-4,300% does sound better. Pirate

It looks like all the ship skins were removed from the NES store, so to those who got in congrats. Wish I had pulled the trigger a week or two ago but I didn't realize they were going to increase skin prices by 10x. Shocked

I was rather shocked myself. Less about the price increase, which seems inline with the overall change, and more about the door just being slammed shut on the skins like it was.

That being said, at least I managed to pick up a few dread skins last night before it happened.

Appreciated. Price actually increased 18-59x times for Frigates and 10-19x for Cruisers versus previously.

All imparted only at the most Fair exchange rates - I even greatly undervalue, seeing as plex is north of 850 p/u right now. Buyer confidentiality guaranteed. Smile

Certain spaceships are still grossly under-priced, while the Rifter Krusual Edition isn't getting any love at all. Sad

It will be most pleasant to return here and see where they settle in a few weeks time.

The more interesting question are the aurum store skins. The current prices can't hold, since it would be absurdly inexpensive to get a lifetime use out of the skins (particularly for frigates). The only question is when and how CCP changes the pricing model.

If they just flip a switch one day, and increase the prices for the SKINs but make them permanent (while rewarding all current holders of the BPCs or ships with permanent skin licenses), that would buying skinned ships and BPCs now HUGELY profitable. If they announce a change like that in advance, people will gobble up skins and crash the price before the change goes live.

Of course they could leave prices the same (IMO unlikely) or else walk back on the promise to turn existing ships/BPCs into licenses.

I think there's a real risk of existing stockpiles driving the isk price of SKINs below the expected isk/PLEX/Aurum conversion price. That won't be an issue for the newly released SKINs of course, but for the SKINs that were 20x less expensive yesterday... if there are large stockpiles (and I expect there are), there may be competition on the sell side depressing prices.

Also, there are a few remaining interesting skinned ship opportunities:

* Skinned exploration frigates that have been regularly given to players are still really cheap - ranging from 2 to 10 million isk each. There is a huge supply of them so I doubt the price will skyrocket, but the patch will introduce significant new demand for them as permanent SKINs, and set a new baseline price of around 150 million for permanent SKINs acquired elsewhere, so they might have a lot of upside (and low risk considering how cheap they are!). The sarum magnate has a HUGE old sell order around 2.5 million isk, and that's keeping its price lower than any of the others. The patch will kill that order though, so this might be the best opportunity I see right now.

* Police pursuit comet - no word in the devblog on if its price will change. Right now the skinned ship BPC is incredibly cheap, it's like 6 million isk worth of isk and LP. I haven't been able to check its price in the LP store, but if it hasn't been increased, I would expect it to - or else it will be the cheapest permanent skin by several orders of magnitude.

* Nefantar thrasher - these only came as a PREORDER bonus for the collector's edition, making their supply as limited as the genolution 3/4 implants. We haven't seen much demand for them though, as a one-use only ship, but as a permanent SKIN... price has remained around 100 to 200 million isk, although they regularly get bought out.

* Catalyst SKINs - these are (were?) a buddy invite reward in a pack of 6 or so, including the popular Quafe SKIN. Prices have already started moving on them, but for a while yesterday they were lagging behind.

* Mackinaw Ore Development Edition - this was only available as a reward with the buddy recall program I believe, and there are very few for sale, but it should be popular.

* Pirate destroyer/battlecruiser SKINs: These really haven't popped, probably because it's hard to predict demand for 30-day SKIN licenses or gauge the current supply of drops. Price might not move, but at least it's a market that hasn't been upturned already.

* Mispricing of existing SKINs: Some people are cashing out for a large profit but much less than the predict isk price based on Aurum values. I've snagged a few ships this way.

Hmm not pleased with their way on this as if they were drops..Those become just 30 days b4 going to normal.. I can see doing

that for all new drops but people may have purchased that ship that way. Why should they b penalized those should remain as

permeate as they were b4 changes.. Just a thought ??

A curious situation has developed, where it is possible to market these 300 humble little frigates for 150bn ISK, or returns being equal to 6,150% avg - this is after discounting by 35% from the ISK:AUR exchange rate, in order to move such volume of wares quicker, ofc. Shocked

Surely, a Garmur, or a Daredevil is better I hear you say - No. Shocked

Skins, in its current state, are way too disproportionately priced. Rather then selling skins on ship to ship basis, why not have a more expensive skin bundle?

For example: I really like Iron Man-esque Sarum skin, so ill rather pay 40$ for allowing me to use that skin on every Amarr ship out there.

In its current state: great investment opportunity, especially if you jumped the gun early on.

Recommended sound ambiance for reading the following post - Black Flag Soundtrack - Modernity

Any multi-tiered application concepts would soon exhaust demand and stagnate. One only needs to look at the current limiting economy of apparel from the NES store, and the fact that second hand exchange further depresses the market.

The current SKIN variety and pricing allows for a more even or more efficient "distribution", if you will.

It will be just like the LP store - as soon as either the popularity of one SKIN, or a small group of SKINs, drops, or an issue with oversupply in one area becomes apparent - people who sell their AUR for ISK would merely switch to another set and still get paid their due exchange rate.

I see this system as a conduit of wealth transfer from the more established players to the much younger ones, much like how the PLEX exchange operates.

It is a healthy mechanic, truth be told. P

The real question everyone should be asking, though, is - Why sell AUR, and not the easier version, which PLEX essentially is?

We'll find out soon, I guess! Pirate

My associate Celgar is pursuing the graphical issues regarding the new SKINS in the dev blog comments section although I doubt he will get any joy.

I will point out to any pilots who haven't realised yet that the current excellent designs for the Quafe skins will be downgraded to a dull pale blue wash design after the SKINs program is implemented. Also you should likely not expect much demand for the ORE/Buddy skins for the mining vessels & Orca as the post-Tuesday look is dull as **** and resembles airfix model plastic before they are assembled & painted. I'm not sure what they look like currently as I haven't looked. If you compare for example the standard Hulk design to the washed-out grey vision CCP wish to offer us...........well I'm just lost for words!
