Automatic Probe Scanning - Looking for Opinion

Since this is probably more applicable to us w-space dwellers than anyone else in EVE, I thought I should post this here instead of the Features and Ideas forums for now.

Anyhow,

What I would like to know is what people would think of an auto-pilot like system for probe scanning, specifically you launch probes, set this auto-scan going and over time signatures will eventually be scanned down to a point where you can warp to them, or are able to manually probe them with 100% certainty of where they are, and then return a warpable result as normal.

The time needed for this auto-scan would be magnitudes longer than if you where to manually do it, and used more of a means to avoid time consuming and (frankly) boring work, IE exactly the same as auto-pilot.

Granted there are a lot of possible issues that would surround this, mainly the balancing that would be required, but for now lets ignore that and focus on if this is possibly something that is wanted, or just a means to be lazy and adds nothing to the game.

Thoughts?

Die in a fire.

This is about as terrible an idea as wormhole stabilizers, and should never be considered. I mean, FFS, they tell you how many sigs are in system and where they are already. If you can't scan ANY sig within 3-4 scans with ANY ship you should probably go back to k-space.

Seriously tho, scanning is easy. The last thing we need is to make it easier.

Yeah, well, it's just like my opinion, man.

+1 as long as this module functions like a Cyno and T2 Large bubble combined, and also decloaks anything within it's range. And takes longer than even the most autistic dead-weight mail-whoring new recruit.

Eh, ****** idea, fair enough.

Didn't think it was that bad though.
Just meant it for core probes to ease the repetitiveness of scanning chains, nothing more.

Guess I was wrong.

Sadly, no.
Guess my levels of laziness are just to much.

This Module already exists, It's called 'new corp recruits'. and they should be made to do all the scanning until they get as bitter about scanning empty chains as i do.

Great Idea!

How about while it's scanning all them sigs down, you have to remain uncloaked, and in system for it to complete!

You must be so lazy you forgot to keep wadding your way out of the cesspool you got this idea from.

I am Winthorp you might remember me from such films as i got CCP to make signature ID's persistent through DT for their love of AU bros.

ok im going to give an honest answer besides omfg gtfo (which i agree with btw). and.... thats all that needs to be said but..... here goes.

scanning is not just about finding all the sigs; it is about intel. scanners go out to find pvp, and get a general idea of what is in the chain. afk auto scanning is a middle finger to the content creation that scanning is actually all about. all this would do is allow lazy to be lazy. there is such a thing as a good/bad scanner.

also, any corp is using out of game tools that need updating like siggy. marking things in siggy, making bookmarks, updating/reporting intel is what scanning really is. If the scanner sees a pilot on his scanning journey or a lot of activity on d scan, it should be reported. my point being that this is an active/engaged pilot activity. Not something should be afk.

then we act on this intel! oh found blue-fire in our chain! awesome lets find their home and fight to the death! They should fight us! (IN CERBS LOL)These are the thoughts that intel driven scanning should be creating.

that being said maybe auto scanners will be sht and active scanners have the potential to be good. but i am not interested in policing crap like that. this will lead to so many garbage scanners mindlessly putting bookmarks and taking forever to do the work.

blegh.

I wouldn't be completely against it as i don't find current system particularly fun. However, i would tie the ability to a high level skill.
