An epic space opera doesnt work unless somebody is the bad guy. And beneath that big bad guy is a host of little bad guys doing their thing. Even Star wars had its storm troopers playing second banana to Darth Vader. So griefing is natural result players to be bad guys in an epic space opera fueled by the players.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

I love how when there's a mechanic at play people don't like, they blame CCP's inability to fix a non-existent problem.

another fine example is warfare links.

I "love" this attitude. No matter how much of a jerk someone can be, people still think it's OK because its only a game. Even if that means the characters actions by the player, results in unfair misery and the eventual outcome of disinterest and hate of the game.

Hate-bait.
Too general.
Ignores the fact that it's a game and people play it as they are encouraged to.

Might believe that people who do things to you in a game ...

first of all, this bumping effect is silly. warp gates and asteroids can bump me out of alligment, but i cant use them as a cover. i hate it -.- and about ships, its also silly. how many mass an orca has, and how many on the mach? what is the shield hp on booth? i think the macha should be in deep shield on the first bump, and deep hull at the second one... btw losing ehp caused by an another player willingly is hostility isnt it? what about bumping a poor fool for 10 mins? for me, its looks lile a hostile action, but you cant attack them without getting concorded. im not an indi pilot, so i usually getting bumped by asteroids and warp gates, but i still hate the effect, especially because for missiles and ammo those things are not collidable.

Thanks for all the reactions. I actually found it quite funny, the way he did it. Guess it's less funny if you actually lose a ship.

they used to be. in 04 your missles would smash into roids and do splash damage. the issue was, it was not predicatable when you would hit a roid or not, so they removed it

There's only a few chokes where they would be looking for you really. Why not have another set of ships for everything north of Uedama and Niarja, and one for everything south? If you never need to run the pipe, you may fare better.

Vote Vic Jefferson for CSM X.....XI.....XII?

It still isn't predictable! Some of those collision spheres are epic. There's nothing quite like watching your ship hump vacuum when you're (visually) more than a kilometer from the nearest obstacle.

It's one of the last remaining WTF aspects of the game.

Correct. They tried years ago, and couldn't make it work.

It's actually a lot less bumping now than it used to be.

You still have MWD frigates bumping titans kilometers out of where they used to be but heh...

Been around since the beginning.

The triple web only works as a forward strategy. If you web down before they ever bump you it will slingshot you insta warp but if you get bumped and the spooling begins, it's pretty much I-Win for the bump guy. They can hold you using bump mechanic for as long as they want. It's as good as tackle.

You can get a perspective of how bump spooling works by trying to web down large ships as they undock. The web mechanic won't work there because you undock with negative inertia unless you have an insta bookmark. Then it works with or without web assistance.

I will give CCP credit where it is due. The mass changes removed most ships from the bump brigade. Machariel is the only one that really does it well now but it does it with such certainty that anyone who wants to play that ransom game simply needs to own a Machariel and they are good to go. Bumping isn't hostile and they have no fear of retribution for passive tackle. My strategy has been to seek out A6 wormholes that let me avoid the cow pastures but they are random and rare. Some months I only see two and they aren't always useful. Sometimes taking you from one remote region to another, forcing you through a pipe, just from another spot in the game.

short version, you need two accounts, same corp, one to web you down.

If you are alone, just log off. Bumping doesn't cause aggression and you will emergency warp out. Stay logged off for 15 minutes, go make a sandwich or a cup of coffee, come back and resume your trip.

As an almost 24/7 incursion runner, I am always on the move between incursion spawns. With my orca and bowhead pilot I move all my stuff from one spawn to another, always being targets of ganking attempts.

I never get targeted, until yesterday. I thought it was quite funny, some joker in a machariel bumping my orca out of alignment, asking for a ransom. I tried to give myself some more time by talking to him, waiting for a buddy to come with mwd battleship to bump him, so I can warp off. (Another alt with a webber didn't really help)

I got out safe.

Anything else I can do to stop this?

- Fit a MWD should be nice
- Use the webber alt to get a faster warp

Fit a MWD and know how to over heat it.

Last I knew you could still bump people who logged off which prevents them from warping off.

You can't log off safely in space if you're being targetted. Your ship will continue to sit in space until they un-target you and the 30 second countdown timer completes. Blink

I have seen this work multiple times even during burn jita events.

You have 30 seconds before you become invulnerable assuming you have no timers, which would mostly be the case. There are plenty of other fish in the sea, so they move on to more stupid targets.

Until there's a valid counter to being bumped out of alignment indefinitely it's a bad mechanic, plain and simple. There's such a thing as balance. If one ship can bump another ship out of alignment for as long as they like, the victim ship needs to have some sort of mechanic to counter it. Just because the aggressor doesn't perceive it as a problem doesn't mean it isn't one Roll
