In some instances, you might experience issues with the Launcher that would necessitate reinstalling it. While a little more complicated, you are able to do this with the Mac client thanks to the instructions kindly provided by CCP Atropos below.

Please note that the version number you will see in URLs and paths will change when the launcher updates, and you should use the current launcher version number accordingly. You can find the current launcher version by going here and looking under Launcher Info -> Data -> url. The whole number on that line between underscores is the current launcher version, and should be in the format of x.x.xxxxxx (where x is a number).

  1. Download http://content.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVE%20Online-2.2.871481.macosx.zip
  2. Open the archive and extract the EVE Online.app/ application to a folder of your choice
  3. Open the location you saved the application to in Finder, and right click on the EVE Online.app/ application and choose ‘Show Package Contents’
  4. Navigate to the appdata folder, and find the folder named EVE Online-2.2.871481.macosx
  5. In a second Finder window, navigate to your EVE install, and choose ‘Show Package Contents’ on the EVE Online.app/
  6. Navigate to the appdata folder
  7. Copy the EVE Online-2.2.871481.macosx folder from the first Finder window to the second, by dragging and dropping it
  8. Delete the older EVE Online-…macosx folder from your EVE install (in the second finder window)
  9. Start your EVE client, you should have successfully updated to the newer version of the EVE Launcher

I am getting the message "Running a pre-release EVE Launcher" when I start the launcher. It also says "You're running a pre-release version of the EVE Launcher. This might cause problems with your installation. Do you wish to proceed anyway? Choose OK to continue or cancel to do nothing."

I have re-installed the launcher as described above, but no change to the message.

Launcher version is EVE Online-2.2.871481.macosx.

Client is very unstable. Crashing after 5-10 minutes.

Same issue I believe. Went to 'launcher infoTQ, gives me 2.2.871481 as the latest launcher version.

Downloaded file at http://content.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVE%20Online-2.2.871481.macosx.zip

I have followed the instructions. The folder filename in 'app data' was the same EVE Online-2.2.871481.macosx in both folders, i.e. my install and the download.

The only difference in the 'app data' folder is that MY install has a folder named updates in it which the download does not.

Okay, updated by virtue of the latest download from your link overwriting the folder that I had, clearly the names were identical.

No joy, still get the same message.

Only option is to completely download a new Eve Online. It's pain in the proverbial as my internet speed is rubbish so I have to do it at work and bring it home.

Great new beaut EveOnline launcher ... pity it doesn't work now.

I reinstalled, which amounts to downloading the ~180MB disk image and dragging EVE Online to the Applications folder. Same launcher version, same error.

OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)
Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB

This system has a 3TB Fusion drive.

Downloaded the DMG with Safari 8.0.5 (10600.5.17)

update:
I moved the ~/Library/EVE Online folder out of the way. The launcher started up and still complained about being a "pre-release version". So there's nothing in the old EVE Online data that's causing this problem.
