I've been ninja-gas mining in W-space (loads of fun).

My process has been this:

  • Find, bookmark, and enter WH
  • Make safe-warp
  • Scan and bookmark everything
  • When a WH becomes inaccessible (when the only known entrance collapses), delete its corresponding folder

The process is pretty quick, and I've got a system down for all the folders that lets me know which WH is connected to which. If the entrance to a particular WH closes, I delete its folder and the folders of the WHs connected to it.

That being said, I've just recently started looking into things like Siggy and Tripwire, but am having a hard time seeing the benefit. What do these do that is different? The visual map of WHs is nice, but otherwise... is there something I'm missing? The thing that I fear the most is that all this scanning/bookmarking/deleting I'm doing is futile, and these programs save all this data because it stays constant, but I can't see anything from the guides that indicates this.

I just don't know enough about WHs.

I am Winthorp you might remember me from such films as i got CCP to make signature ID's persistent through DT for their love of AU bros.

Tripwire is the way to go. Easy to learn, and very useful for wormhole adventures.

Personally I see a benefit of Tripwire when you are in a corp/alliance: Your team can see where you are and how you got there. If you are solo it is fine using pen and paper imho.

For solo ninja gas harvesting? Nothing important really, other than maybe telling you the class and statics of a system.
You still have to do the bookmarks manually.

Where those tools really show their power is when you do wormholy stuff in a group.
They allow you to share intel about the chain (who lives there, what stages are the connections,etc...), track where everyone is and in general make navigating long chains easier.
It's possible to do these things without specialized mapping tools (and in the early days of w-space people did), but I wouldn't want to miss our mapping tool.

You still need to scan and make bookmarks if you want to warp to stuff, however websites like Tripwire allow you to share your scanning information (not your bookmarks) with other people. So if you're in a corp and you log in after someone else, you don't have to rescan the signatures they already recorded.

Ah! Awesome. Thanks for the help; I'm not in a corporation, so I won't make too much use of these (though I'll keep Tripwire bookmarked for the class/static aspect).

Thanks again!

tripwire is horrible, use siggy if you want a map program.
tbh though, you dont need one ever for solo stuff, no point.
just make a 'Wormholes' folder in your bookmarks and bookmark stuff. order it by date/time created and delete anything older than 24 hours.

tripwire is cool, but it's really, really annoying that you can't change a system name manually.

This is exactly right.

These mapping tools are for sharing wormhole info effectively. If you're solo then just making bookmarks works fine since only you care about where they lead.

I like our system, because we have a nice history section on pretty much every wh system ingame.

lol quotes from local, old intel on whom lived where, links to battle reports,
some times Hiku's poems or even songs some ones written down.

Pretty much a history of our groups adventures through wspace going back to the beginning.

So even if the chains empty plenty of interesting things to discover / re discover.

Siggy ftw :D
I cant imagine doing any kind of WH activities without it, its truly amazing!

Although, like others have said, its more of a group thing really.
Solo, a pen and a papir works wonders.

Basicly the one thing you wanna keep an eye out for, is the formation of new sigs in the WH you are in, once you have scanned everything down.

A life is best lived, to not step into your grave in a well preserved body. Instead, to slide in side ways, all battered and bruised, screamming, "Holy SH**! What a ride!"

I kept using Siggy even after I started to play exclusively solo. The ISK cost of using it is negligible if you are in a solo corp with few characters; I think I pay like 30m per month or so, that's about 5 minutes of bearing.

It just saves a lot of work. I don't need to write anything down, just copy-paste sig lists from the d-scan, and the chain is created automatically just by jumping into a new system. Also it tells me what statics the system I just jumped into has, so I know already if it's worth scanning. And on days when I scan a lot and have long chains, it is really useful to keep track of the geography and not get lost.

Another useful feature is that you always see how old signatures are, so I know when that static is going to go end of life without writing down such excessive details manually.
