I think I have just figured out what frustrates me the most about Eve Online...

I spent 30 seconds wishing everyone on local and corp chat a very safe and happy holiday season and literally within the same amount of time I was called every name in the book. I don't care where you are from, what color you are, what your orientation is or what you believe...

The lack of mutual respect is staggering.

I'm not asking you to respect my game play style or my beliefs... I'm not asking you to not blow up my ship or to overlook the risks I accepted when I activated my account. I am asking you to respect the fact that on this end of the keyboard I am a human being who works hard and chooses to actively participate in this game and in this forum so much so that I pay for that privilege.

You want to know what will kill Eve online... new players continually being subjected to that.

Even arrogance has its place within Eve... but c'mon people you want Eve Online to last as Ive read in various posts... get a grip.

* First and foremost thank you for all of the positive and mature input. The responses have been greatly appreciated. After having read some responses I would like to add that this is not about a personal reaction to my wishes of yule tide joy... this is about the community at large. The acceptance of new players to add and who can add to an already great game and the basic courtesy we are all due as individuals. Already I have seen responses that can't even respect an opinion. What does that say about long term players. What does that say about the longevity of the game as a whole?
You want to think I am crying over spilled milk go right ahead but respectfully you are demonstrating that very same narrow mindedness and short term thinking I am describing. The lack of basic mutual respect is only a symptom of that.*

I don't agree. Most are just playing a game. The noisy ones are tards. It's about 5% I'd say.

Our alliance got a wardec as a pressie from some griefers.
Last night, they gave us 3 badgers, 2 canes, 1 armageddon and a pod.

We gave them lots of ammo and the best holiday wishes.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

Well, if you wanted me to respect you as a human being, writing this post didn't put you on the fast track to that goal. Just super sayin'.

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

It's unfortunate, but because of the nature of this game it tends to attract some of the lowest and illest of personalities. They tend to be loud and usually having something to prove (internet bravado, asshattery, need for attention... who knows :\). They're out to ruin anyone's day so they can feel good about themselves. You just have to to try and turn them off.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to you and the rest :)!

Meh...I keep my comments regarding holidays in private chat or corp/alliance. This year the greeting on Vent from me to all my alliance mates was "Merry ******* Christmas dipshits!"...they took it well. I got no name calling back and no harrassment other than the typical "your momma" stuff. On the other hand...had I posted that in local anywhere...it likely would have resulted in a temp ban by a Dev and deservedly so.

Either way...you are right. People suck...most people have no grasp whatsoever of others feelings, beliefs or good intentions.

Happy Holidays!

I'd totally agree with OP, having played a fair few MMO's in my time, the one answer that comes up most often I believe when 'why do you love...?' threads are posted is 'the community'.

Why is EVE diffrent?

1. Well, in all games I'vs played, a good percentage of PVPers feel the need for 'smack talking' all and sundery because they seem to think it makes them 'hard'. In reality proper hard men (and I know a few my best mate used to run one of the biggest security firms in Liverpool) tend to be normal people who won't give you grief unless you stupid enough to cross them. Therefore Pvpers tend to come across as childish bullies to everyone else.

2. 'Welcome to the intrawebs' some people have said , to this I would say considering that a lot of the behaviour on these forums would quickly lead to warnings and bans on other forums on the web, that some of the problem can be laid at CCP's door for not having the testicalar fortitude to moderate this forum to a reasonable standard.

So what you 'carebear noob' I'm sure a few of you are thinking.

Well playing an MMO without a good community to interact with is not really much diffrent than playing a single player game. Its often the personal bonds created between guildies that keep people logging in. This being the case can you imagine the retention level EVE could achieve if this was a supportive and pleasent community to be a part of.

TLDR

In essence the 'Brine Vampires' drive poeple from the game depriving themselves of 'victims' , PvEers of buddies, CCP of subs and generally making EVE a pale shadow of what it could be. Sad
