I require a Heron build mainly for exploration purposes.

My hi-sec corp is sending an expedition team into low-sec to survey what types of asteroids are in the belts over there. I'm spear-heading the expedition in a Heron, however I'm not sure what I should fit on it. I need a survey scanner on a medium slot, and an Afterburner for fast movement through belts scanning, but that's all I got. This will not be used for combat at all, if any hostiles come in I'm booking it and my battle-ship using comrades will take care of it. Also, since we're only interested in asteroids and minerals, probes are not needed.

yes get a buzzard. Heron will get you killed very quickly. Wait the time, train up so you can cloak up. And i THINK DOTLAN has the diferent kinds of belts listed per system. Check them out.

Here is an example:

One question regarding skills in training. If I pause the skill queue and put a skill in front of the original one, will I lose the progress I had in the original skill? I want to train for a Buzzard, but I still have 2 weeks in Mining Barge 5. Sad

no, you don't loose SP in partially trained skills when you bump another ahead of them.

Until you can fly the Buzzard, just fit a prototype cloak to the heron along with the AB and the scanner. Keep it cheap so when you loose them it won't be such an expensive lesson. You'll be better prepared for the Buzzard after you've lost a few cheap herons.

I might also suggest reading http://jestertrek.blogspot.com/2011/02/guide-basic-decloaking.html as well as his pvp guides, especially the fleet scouting one since that's what you'll be doing. They aren't the end-all, be-all of information but they will give you some good advice and get you thinking about things you might not otherwise.........until it's to late.

As always, proper planning prevents **** poor performance

You don't really need the survey scanner unless you need to know exactly how much ore is in each asteroid. You can just make an overview setting to show asteroids, warp up to a belt at like 50km and quick look down the list, and then move on. I do have one my cheetah but I never use it.

Also, probes may be useful if you want to look for things like a gravimetric mining spot. That way it is a little more work for hostiles to find you than just mining in belts.
