Hope you get it all working, old cameras, best cameras :)

Remember the huge video cameras that you stuck an actual VHS tape into? Those were fun Big smile

I remember spending entire afternoon with junky old VHS camcorders -- we'd peek out from behind the corner, then pull back and stop the camera to switch places.

What? We were ten years old....

First time I read this, I imagined you "peeking out from behind the corner" with the camera in your hand, so as to not be caught by the people you're filming.

My dad recently pulled out some old camcorder footage I made with my sisters and our cats with lots of #magical' jumping about effects. It was quite disturbing but also hilarious. I'm going to be 'screening' it for my sisters this christmas and expect it to go down well :D

I'd try getting the battery port cleaned out and getting a good battery in there. My old Canon AE-1 would start doing odd things if the battery got a little low. Like what you described, where the aperture will work with the lens off, but not with the lens on.

As I earlier mentioned it is a fully analog lens and camera, the only part that is electrical is the in-built light meter (which has nothing to do with the function of the exposure system etc) and the flash (should I mount it).

Anyway, I have recently found I am going to be saving for a Dslr soon, and I will be getting an adapter ring for the old zoom and telephoto lenses I have.

Thanks for your help ppl.

Much appreciated.

Best regards ThaMa.

You could try to compensate with the lens aperture too, provided the lighting is not too extreme
...
Just to clarify: f-stop is shutter speed, and the lens aperture is how wide the lens opens up to regulate the amount of light that can get in.

That is incorrect. The f-stop is the aperture.
You might be under the impression it is the shutter speed since altering the f-stop affects the shutter speed as well because the automatic metering/exposure control will compensate for the change in captured light.
