Hello i am seeking some help with PI
firstly i have just ventured into setting up Pi i made a test installation and started to produce some water all very simple.

Now i wish to venture into venture into a refined product that requires 2 basic resources for the benefit of my post i will choose livestock. So i require Carbon Compounds Complex Organisms which i then have to make into Biofuels and
Proteins.

so my question is what do i build to produce livestock? do i need to build 1 factory to extract and convert carbon compounds and another factory to extract and convert complex organisms, or can i do all of the above using just 1 factory. By factory i mean like 1 full extraction plant and storage facility and launchpad etc.

sorry if this sounds like a pile of biomass :)

Step 1: You should stop using the term 'factory' in your context because it is horribly confusing and there are two PI structures with factory in the name.

Step 2: if you are in null or WH space you can run two extractor, 4 basic factories and two advanced factories and the advanced factories will have 100% utilization. Low sec and high sec pplanets do not have enough raw material density to maintain 100% utilization which means you would probably be best off with 1 planet extracting and making each P1 item and a third combining them into P2.

it all depends on how much clicking and hauling you're prepared to do.

Extractor heads chew up enormous amounts of powergrid, so Direct-to-P2 facilities tend to produce their goods comparatively slowly. On the plus side, you don't need to visit them or cycle them as often.

On the other hand, using multiple planets each producing a single P1 product and combining them on a factory planet will produce goods much faster, at the cost of a lot more clicking and hauling (and POCO taxes).

They do if you have Command Center Upgrades 5. I run a few planets in high sec with 2 extractors on a 2 day 1.5 hour cycle. 4 basic and 2 advanced factories. These extract about 10K raw per cycle. This is a very low maintenance setup. It also reduces taxes.

Running a single extractor planet, I can usually pull 20K per cycle in high with Command Center Upgrades 3.
