What the hell is a Drifter, and what was his beef with me? I was just running a little L1 mission for a SOE agent in highsec and then out of nowhere this drifter thing warps in and two shots me.

Someone mentioned that they are connected to sleepers, but I haven't done anything to sleepers. The only ones I've seen in the past few days were four Circadians camping a gate who completely ignored me as I passed by.

What did I do to **** this monstrosity off, and how I can avoid his ministrations in the future?

I am having a hard time understanding how you can not know. Do you ever look at anything the launcher provides or care about what is happening in this game? Is this a pointless question?

I don't use the launcher. If I do, I get a socket error. So let's pretend that no, I don't actually know the answer to the question I posed, and also that I just renewed my subscription for the first time in three years, so I have no idea what the hell is going on. (Which is, you know, why I asked the question in the first place)

If you were in fact not at the jove structure or the unknown wormhole when it killed you this is indeed odd behavior. Even more odd if you were inside the lvl1 mission when it killed you.

Only other instance of them killing that I know of outside of getting to close tot he jove structure or wormhole is if you shoot seekers or them at other locations in the system they frequently warp to and scan.

Would be dirty of CCP to make them kill people outside of those situations.

I would petition it.

I apologize and suggest you take a look at CCP's youtube channel, where you can find lots of videos about ingame related events and happenings.

confirming drifters are CODE agents who intrude on people's missions and gank them.

Ironically, part of the reason I wasn't paying much attention was because I was also watching videos from Fanfest 2015 to catch up on things on my other monitor Lol

@Maki Osa

did i understand that correctly? The Drifter came into your mission pocket (acceleration gate?) and attacked you in there?
And did you shoot first?

If you have Drifter / Circadian Seeker aggression, you can remove the aggression by losing ships to them.
I recommend rookie ships as these are free and seem to meet the requirements.

Depending on what you did to get their attention in the first place, this may take 1 or 2 ships.

Drifters & Seekers will follow you around a system to resolve the aggression, including camping a station, if you dock, or a gate if you jump to another system.

Undock or re-enter the system and wait to see how they react.

Known reasons for Drifter / Seeker aggression ... so far:

1: Target and shoot a Drifter or Circadian Seeker.
2: Approach a Jove Observatory within 80 km while uncloaked.
3: Approach an Unknown Wormhole within 30 km while uncloaked.

Drifters & Seekers seem to have some sort of remote sensors monitoring locations 2 and 3 even if they are not present to observe your visit.

Strangely, only place where these Drifters are absent is Anoikis, where they are supposedly coming from. I mean if they are sleepers why have they not wiped the people in wormholes first? By the way, how many of you have seen those revenant wrecks in wormholes recently? Our group found one few days ago but there were little leads to tell what had happened.

Using the launcher's a generally good idea. In the end, once you're connected, it shouldn't be any different to running with the exefile (as it fires up the exefile. the auth is a little different, but that's not involved after you've selected a character)

And it'll let you manage the shared cache properly.

If you are having launcher issues, I highly recommend trying a reinstall of it (just the launcher)

Drifter aggression, tested hundreds of times across current builds:

-Approach Jove Structure or Unidentified Wormhole within 10,000 metres.

-Be on grid with Drifters for more than 60 seconds with negative standings towards Drifters faction

-Shoot Circadian Seekers or Drifters within the same 'group'

-Reenter grid with same ship used for combat against entities within the 'group'

These are the reasons, because these are what I consistently test.
