heck, deadspace actives are cheap these days. Personally I'd just stick with the t2 actives due mostly to cost. Most of my shield ships just have 2x t2 invluns on them. but when specific tanking usually 2x primary 1x secondary hardeners, and a deadspace one can make a pretty nice difference. as a newb I just used t1 hardeners and was amazed at how much better t2 ones were when I trained them a stupid amount of time later.

dont forget emergency heat, but yeah on average i would go passiv as i would also use cap injection for mission ships. but passive u rly need the comp skills to 4 atleast better at 5

Agreed - you really need IV skills at a minimum. If the ship you're flying has shield resistance bonuses that's also a major plus.

That's true, I'd give him props for flying such expensive stuff IF his fits were even semi-competent. Some of stuff he's lost cannot be explained even if you tried. No-missile-triplesmartbomb-fastwarpspeed-nano-bastion-brawl-4.3bil Golem is my favourite.

I would definitely like to here his thought process for that fitting.

Sorry for the derailment OP, as the first poster said, if you can afford them and have issues with cap go passive. There is minimal neuting in missions though and being able to overheat the actives if you get into trouble gives you a bit of an additional buffer.

Also don't forget that in order to get the most out of the passive shield hardeners you need the compensation skills trained to V, these are very niche skills and rarely if at all useful (due to the effectiveness of active hardeners) and take quite abit of training time to get maxed out. Obviously if you're a bitter vet running out of things to train or a dedicated L4 mission runner flying only shield ships then it may be worth it to get them to V.

Personally I have almost 100mil skill points under my belt purely in subcaps and I still don't have them to V and have never felt a pressing need to train them.

Yeah when they affected turned off Invulns they were far more valuable. I never got to the point of training them before they removed that though.

My rule of thumb was that if you are doing l5s in lowsec (or are otherwise doing pve under neut pressure) or you have SPR lows the passive resist amps make a lot of sense, however the ability to overheat an active hardener if you mess something up and the ability to spend even more money and get deadspace/faction active hardener that is better than any passive one, generally makes me prefer active outside of their situations mentioned above.

I'd guess, it's a partial travel fit if you consider the low slots. SB's for gate rats, lows for warp/align. That or, low level standings grinding in lowsec? However the mids remain rather disconcerting.

Edit: To keep on topic...

OP, depends on your budget and passive shield skillset. If you've the skills to 5? Sure. At 4? Maybe. End of the day you want to balance resist profile with budget and capacitor levels of the final fit.
