I read the title as Drinking Scene.

I was about to point the OP to my Drinking in Stations thread.

Because there are no spinning, out of control, half-broken space stations to dock with.

And if you mean a scene that plays when you dock with a station, it's because one of three things will happen:

1. It takes longer to load the docking scene than to just load the station interior.
b. It just becomes a jarring audio-visual noise blip that makes the screen and sound go all wobbly without showing anything.
III. It'll look ugly when the missiles and lasers people shoot at you go through the walls of the station as you're playing docking games.

You are back? How I have missed your curb stomping in these forums.

This link is relevant too.

The main sticking point (if you'll excuse the pun) appears to be large ships bouncing off the station interior ... see post #6 by CCP Sisyphus

Quote:
yeah, we wanted to do more, but when it came to seeing ships move, many of the bigger ships would hit the undocking bay walls.. Which led to the question of re-doing station interiors etc etc etc...

Yeah, its still something we'd like to do more with some day.

That wasn't a docking scene, it's a 4 minute long collection of still photos.

If you're just referring to someone recreating a movie sequence with Eve, you weren't very clear about getting the point across. Most people here assumed you meant adding a video sequence of some sort to the act of docking with a station - generally a bad idea for gameplay.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

One of the trailers from a couple years back had a very brief docking animation where it basically just showed the guy's ship pull into its spot, and all the buttons and inventory displays popped up in sequence.

I liked it. Anything more than that would be excessive.
I also wouldn't mind an undock animation, since it seems more and more like undocking is the absolute worst thing you can ask the client program to do... even in empty systems.

A cool docking and/or undocking scene would actually be quite nice, if it were toggable on the 'esc' screen.

I would use it just for special occasions, like undocking my first dread, or undocking after a few weeks not having time to play, or docking back after a glorious battle.

I'm sure it would be enjoyable for new players as well, for their first undocks.

Not sure if it would be worth developing if it would be used - as I assume - 5% of the time or less...

Mr Epeen Cool

Not sure how pulling your camera around every time to align with the next gate can be interesting.

I prefer something subtle and clean with a sci-fi-ish visual. That's just my 2cents.

The docking/undocking could be played out in the background as you're allowed to do your normal things. Much as there's motion already going on in-station. The older 'Quafe Station/Pleasure Station' was a very good example. There was a lot going on in the background as you did your normal activities.

Because especially who make short runs, it would get really old to have to wait 15-30 seconds to see the same scene over and over again.

Welcome to General Discussion.

I think the only reason CCP hasn't elaborated on general media, cut scenes, is because they have higher priorities (fixing a game that they already broke).

Once upon a time the Golem had a Raven hull and it looked good. Then it transformed into a plataduck. The end.
