Skill training while not subbed?

I know that obviously skills can't complete their training while you're unsubscribed, otherwise people would stick on the 30+ day skills to train, unsub then come back a month later with the skill completed. But I'm pretty sure that the skills do continue training for about a day or so after the subscription ends? Does anyone know the exact time that skills continue to train for?

Skills keep ticking for 3 days.

How does EVEMon deal with it? My alt's account expired more than 3 days ago, but my skills keep ticking down. Its had a couple of days so its refreshed several times so I don't think its cached. Or if I reactivate will it suddenly jump backwards?

EVEMon is a 3rd party program, so I dunno.

People used to ghost train skills until CCP decided to step in and derail the gravy train Sad

Wouldn't evemon display something like (cached) like it does when the server is down? Then again, I guess the API would still be accessable, even without an active account. But then again, surely the API should also be reporting the correct training time?

I understand why they clamped down on ghost training, because its obviously lost money for them. But since I won't be playing EVE much over these holidays, I figured I'd look into this and see what's currently happening. I'll be interesting to see if the API stops updating, or if I log in suddenly there's an extra two weeks on the skill.

Well, came in this afternoon, checked EVEmon, my alts skills are still ticking away fine, and while my main's are, its also got the message that 'An error occured while querying the EVE mail messages.' apparently there is no associated XML document. Its been 7 days now since the account deactivated, so I guess the timing isn't a coincidence, and that its stopped the ghost training, though the skills are still ticking down normally, which is odd.

EVEMON does ticks based on your computer clock when it can't check the API server.

You can see this happen a lot if you throw short skills in front of a longer skill. Since you can only check once/hour for the API, if you put four 15 minute skills in front of a longer skill, when the API gets checked again, you'll "lose" an hour of training time, even though from the EVEMON clock (before getting updated by the API) would have you believe otherwise.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Slight update, the skill training is being reported as finished by EVEmon, and its reporting that I can now gain the 'Battleship Advanced Pulse Turrets, Elite' cert. Equally, I added my character to eveboard as a seperate way of viewing the character info, and that too is listing no skills in training and Large Pulse Laser Specialization as being Lv V. I could believe EVEmon using cached info, but the fact that the EVE API is reporting that I do indeed have LvV in that skill means that it has been training while I've been unsubbed?

That is odd. The API should not work if the account is expired. Are you sure the account has expired? And that the ~ 3 days grace period have passed?

Nope, just looked in my transaction history, the most recent thing was a 30 day buddy invite from the end of october whihc came a week after I used a PLEX. The sub ran out at the end of december, and EVEmon popped up several warnings to that effect too.
Ah well, I can't complain. Got me a couple of weeks of large pulse laser spec V trained over my exam period :D

Did you add your char to eveboard when subscription was still active? Maybe eveboard just calculates where you would be if your account had been active full time?

Kinda. I'd added him passworded, but couldn't remember the password because it was about a year ago. So I re-added him with the new API, gave a new password, and checked then. Are there any other services similar to eveboard I could use to check what skills I have?

Ah well, just resubbed and logged in. 24d left on the skill! Rats!

Weird that several different places were reading from the API that the skill was complete though. Still, everything's working as intended then!
