Criminal behaviour to stop people saying things you don't like is the stock in trade of the current crop of internet misogynists. It's rather different from observing that people are saying things you don't like, or being vexed that the people saying those things share your hobby and are making you look bad.

I like the article for the most part, but I feel it is disingenuous at best to claim that when Hollywood caved to criticism, that they were doing anything but fully compromising unfairly to corrupt people and politicians. Hollywood never had anything to own up to, and we (gamers) don't now. Regardless of any number of existing "bad people" who happen to play games, it is completely dishonest to claim that the gaming community has any ties whatsoever to these people or their acts. Nay, it is demonstrated with statistical evidence not only that there is no clear connection between people playing violent video games and people committing violence, but that there is a very small correlation showing that those who play video games of any kind are, in fact, slightly less likely to commit acts of violence. The same is true for those who watch movies or television. Now it is unreasonable to make any assumptions about such weak data, but the worst assumptions you could make about it are the only ones that are directly against the very little information it even shows.

If we ditch the weak data and rely only on strong, hard evidence, we can see it is known that the television and gaming industries have had a phenomenal impact on our culture, and among other major changes have led to overall very strong declines in illiteracy, cultural chauvanism, ethnocentrism, and persecution. This is paired with very significant increases in general morale and much more friendliness among friendships. Children are bullied less, parents lash out at each other less, people with disabilities can come out in public more, the races are mixing, the languages are mixing, people talk about other countries not with disdain but with awe. And we owe virtually all of this to the media which has made these experiences accessible to us so that we would grow up in a world in which the world isn't alien to us.

So I refuse to accept any sort of "constructive criticism" on part of anyone who thinks that my gaming community needs to own up to any sort of violence or depravity. No, the ones who need to own up to depravity are the very oppressors fighting us. We're not in the wrong, we're not even a little wrong.
