Well im on his side, just look at this from other perspective:
You'r new and You just want to use one of the (as name saying "trade") main game tools. There's no info about that such a scams can have place (i mean no info about mechanic of that tool, not even anything about scams in game advertising hehe). What other game have something like this? (nope it's not what it makes it good).
It's like You would buy for $ some weapon skin in FPS, and when You aplly to it some stuff like scope the skin disappeared forever, and there was no info about it in game itself. Won't be surprise if thing like this could get under consumer law for compensation.
Overall i think no matter what if EVE want to exist more than few years the scam system in eve will dasappear some day or there will be clear info about it. Everything changes

Oh look, the circle of fail continues because CCP doesn't simply expectation-level with new players.

How tantalizing to now wonder if this player quits, or if CCP implements a hisec mechanics fix to the trade window perhaps, to now respond to this travesty...

cash your paycheck? little kiddies like you shouldnt talk, because you obviously never had paycheck. nobody can cash it except yourself, so nobody can take your money.
even if it was possible, the situation is not even close to trade window scam. trade window scam is like you selling something on a real-life market, a guy comes to buy, shows that he has the money, you hand over the goods and he hands you the money, but he manages to hide the majority of it in his sleeve or something. and before you notice it, he has the goods and disappears. only in real life he doesnt disappear, he is there to either give you the rest of the money, the goods back or get the crap beat out of him. trade window scam has no analogy in real life.
but dont let that make climb off of your high horse since you either were a trade window scam victim or read about it in the forums, like I did.

Were not laughing at you because we think youre the bad guy. Were laughing at you because you were an idiot. Theres a reason why the Jester is called "The Fool".

And if you were going to use that plex for renewing your subscription, why did you trade it away to begin with? That doesnt make sense, and makes me wonder if youre just trying to draw up sympathy so that people will gift you plex or free isk.

People think ignorance or weakness is at the heart of most people susceptibility to scamming (not just in game, it real life).

In reality, the thing that makes people susceptible to scamming is GREED.

So many people have been parted from their money (real and isk) because they tried to make 'a ton of money'. You could have very simply right clicked on your p-lex and sold it to sell orders in Jita. Not as much as the scammer seemed to be offering, but had you don't that you would not now be here posting about it.

When I was new, I was trying to get creative with making ISK, so put my younger sister up on contract as a sex slave. Someone offered me a trade window deal, and I took it. Was totally ripped off. Haven't seen my sister since 2008, and I only got 400 million for her. I could've had, like, a hundred times that much if I'd been more patient.

Firstly, I'm not a kiddy. Secondly, I've been earning paychecks for nearly 30 years. Thirdly, If I wasn't paid directly into my bank account I could take a paycheck into various places that aren't banks and exchange it for cash, for a percentage.

In real life he's already got your stuff and a car waiting, if you do catch him and beat the crap out of him the police arrest you for assault. Get real. The analogy is apt btw.

I haven't been a victim of the trade window scam because I don't do stupid crap with my stuff, rule #2 of Eve is "trust nobody, not even your alts".

People don't bash you for being scammed.

They bash you because you bitched about it.

If you go "whoops, I got scammed" we'll take more of of a "oh well it happens". Admittedly, though, there are more experienced players that find it abusing an embarrassing that anyone could ever get scammed in the first place because they're all "so obvious" so expect some bash from those guys :3

Lesson though, don't use trade window unless you REALLY trust them.
