Here's my best bud Argentinian co-worker Ignacio's Falklands War story. It might not be 100% accurate, because I heard it in a loud bar over beers, with many distractions.

-Ignacio's little Argentinitan army unit is sitting around on one of the islands, just waiting for their enlistment period to end. Local island corrupt big man scammer politician/businessman guy moves some of his steel pipe inventory into an old warehouse. Doesn't belong to him, it's on the British side of the island or something. He sets up shop and starts parking trucks or something.

-Some over exuberant warehouse guy or somebody puts an Argentinian flag up over the warehouse or something.

-British warships appear and troops start landing.

-Lieutenant of my friend's unit, by radio: "Little bored island unit to base. British troops are landing. A hella lot of warships with guns and missiles behind them."

-Base general: "What? Island unit, counter attack! Hold the landing at the beach!"

-Lieutenant and local unit grunts look at each other. Look at the ships, at the British Marines doing an amphibious assault, and at the local thugs warehouse.

-Lieutenant: "Base, we have radio equipment trouble, signal not clear. Please repeat."

-Base general: "Island unit, assault that landing site! Now! Repulse the invasion! And hold at all costs! Until reinforced!"

-Lieutenant looks at grunts, warehouse. Lieutenant: "Island unit to base. We have radio trouble. Can you hear me? ::Tremolos the radio's broadcast volume knob, fades it to 0 while still speaking, pulls the plug::

Not the last stand of the 300, but myself I'm glad my mate Ignacio didn't get his dumb arse shot up defending a hot damn corrupt politician's warehouse. Smile

The thing that's actually funny is that the oil reserves may very well be so deep underground that it would be deemed unprofitable to harvest them. Lol

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

I did not find the right comic, this is fairly close as only the ignorant dare call the French cowards. Even in the world wars, when they were out gunned, they formed a resistance (old fashioned guerrila war). Blink

Well, I guess they'll wait another 40-50 years, when there won't be any more easily accessible oil left.
