So I got scammed by Mechwarriorx. My own fault but don't sell any items to this guy. First he sets up trade for a nomad (me selling) and puts in that I will give him 7.1 billion and the nomad. Then he puts in I will get 7.1 million and give him the nomad. I didn't look close enough and made the trade.

He then blocks me from contacting him. I contact him from another toon and he admits the scam.

My own fault.

I know people post these things out of an urge to help others, but this really is the wrong forum for this so ISD will either move it or lock it. While my own mistake wasn't that bad (I once bought a tech 1 hauler for 120 million isk because i was in a stupid hurry), I know how you feel ,somewhat.

I NEVER 'trade' with someone I don't know. If someone wants to sell me something they can put up a contract that i can scrutinize because I commit. Many times in Jita I've had a contract up and someone convo's me wanting to buy it and asks for me to trade it to them. HELL no, buy it from contract as is or F off lol.

+1 for taking responsibility for your failure (a sign of maturity), many people would have come to this forum demanding that CCP mechanically protect them from their personal mistakes , manly because they can't understand the basic concept of EVE Online lol.

If someone you don't know tries to talk you into a station trade, it is always a scam. Private contract or gtfo.

Few million in chump change? Sure, trade.
Billions? Contract.

Didn't I read a tradewindow scam report recently?
Guess they are a thing again...

Taking advantage of people who aren't careful never goes out of style. One of the real life skills that Eve taught me - read EVERYTHING before I sign it.

When it's used by enough people,
word will spread not to use tradewindows.

Of course there will always be people who fall for it,
but that number goes down.

When ISK doubling was a thing this happened too.
Eventually the amount of people who fall for it goes down,
but of course it doesn't stop completely.

Then, after one or two generations,
people will pick up on it again,
because the amount of people knowing they exist goes down.

Of course they never end, but global usage/success rate is cyclical.

And then the generation who used it earlier
comes and says they used them before they were cool
and we call them hipsters or something.

My vigilance that i carry with me in all the mmos i play is a result of eve. It used to annoy me but now im thankful for it.

With that being said, never never make deals in jita. As mentioned....use contracts only or just buy straight off the market.

Sorry this happened to you op.

Destiny always seems decades away, but suddenly it's not decades away; it's right now. But maybe destiny is always right now, right here, right this very instant, maybe.

Sorry this happened to you op.

I once managed to sell a legit PLEX via contracts in Jita.
Simply didn't want to pay the market taxes for it.

Took over an hour until it sold. Most people always blindly assume
it's a scam, without even looking. Sad and hilarious in some ways.

I'd recommend removing the name from your post title and body, and the thread will probably be left alone by the forum moderators. As far as I know, you can't name and shame, but the discussion is otherwise on topic.

Eve University has a good article on the various scams, and otherwise you can go to Jita and look at the local chat window and try to figure out HOW all the things they offer or post are scams, where the scam is, etc.

Is it being sold in local? If yes then the chances of it not being a scam are very low indeed.

proof
/pro͞of/
noun: proof; plural noun: proofs

evidence or argument establishing or helping to establish a fact or the truth of a statement.
"On the forums you will be asked to give proof of your accusations."
"Yo, goober, where the proofs?!?!?!"

synonyms: evidence, verification, corroboration, authentication, confirmation, certification, documentation, validation, attestation, substantiation

Figured that since OP didn't show any, he didn't know what it meant.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Why on earth would you sell anything through a trade to begin with? Much less a ship worth 7 billion... Roll
