Just reinstalled eve again after about 5 years and very happy to get back to it!
However my full install is only 275mb compared to 12gb.
game started up fine but im really suspicious about where the game is installed to and whats missing.?!
Probably some new online server install or something but i really dont wana get into the game and find im missing out or find out the game will run quicker to have full install.
Anyone know whats going on?

Also just a quick one but is there a way to use my old portrait on a new character?

Thanks!

Since last release, it is on TQ also.

Quote:
Today, a full install package for EVE is about 7GB that has to be downloaded and this expands to 12GB once installed. After the change, the initial download package required to play the game will be on the order of 200MB and it expands to about 350MB. This installs the game code without any resources (models, textures, audio and so on). The EVE client itself then downloads resources as it needs them and caches them locally on disk, so any given resource is only downloaded once.

On a fast connection you probably won't notice much of a difference – load times may be slightly longer at times. As you play more, more resources will be cached and fewer and fewer need to be downloaded. The client will be smart about pre-fetching resources it expects will be needed soon. When entering space, for example, it starts downloading the resources for stations and stargates in all neighboring systems so that if you jump through any stargate, in all likelihood all those static structures have already been downloaded when you enter that system. The client also starts a background download of all the low detail resources for all ships as soon as the game starts, so it'll soon be able to display any ship without any delay. Ships usually enter the scene (what you see on your screen) in low detail any way – the higher detail resources are then downloaded on demand.

Also relevant.

I guess I will never understand how someone will just buck up the money to resub without first doing any legwork to see what has changed recently and how it might affect them. There was even a whole page made for this so you didn't have to search!

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Thanks for quick reply guys. For your info i searched for 45 mins for explanation and didnt find anything.

So is it my understanding game files will gradually download onto the cache? Cos i made my default cache location on my ssd so i should probably move it into main drive if its gonna get heavy soon?

yes it will slowly grow over time. It maxes out at about 13gb i believe which is the full client. I have the cache on an SSD for performance reasons.. but decide for yourself where you want to keep it.

You can change the cache location in the launcher settings. I am not sure however it it also moves it automatically

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

If you have a limited connection you can also force it to download it all in one go.. And yes, I'd get it off the SSD if you aren't willing to end up with ~13gb of space eaten up by it.

Nice one guys. Thanks for all the replies, prob wont mind it taking up the 12gb if thats all it uses up but if its safe to move at anytime then ill maybe think of moving it laters.
Thanks again and happy trails!

Missed a great opportunity to tell him it was installed on his cloud drive and there is a bug where it was uploadeding all his pictures to Farcebook. Twisted

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
