It was basically the same effect as a webifier in EvE, the enemy ship slowed down (though irreversible) when damaged for the final blow. But a comparison of a single-player pigeon shooting game with a PvP game is not fair anyway. EvE is IMO brilliant in making fights exciting till the last second, because it ignores "physics".

Pretty much, yes.

The effects already exist, and are implemented in a way that doesn't make the game horrible for the parties concerned. It's all good and well against AI characters because those won't be frustrated by not being able to do something while the player fucks about completing secondary objectives. Against human players, the level of awfulness in the gameplay such mechanics would create is indefensible.

There are some pretty significant differences between PvE and PvP that require the things you apparently do not like about the system, such as the ability to inhibit motion. They serve only some incidental purpose in PvE, and are critical in PvP — in both cases because of how the two types of combat are interconnected in the overall economy of the game.

+1

There is a straight forwardd way Anu Swaraj can test this himself and thus learn WHY things exist the way they do. He can try PVP, but abstain from using "WoW spells" like Webs, and see how far he gets. That would explain things way more than any of us could.

Well, of course I'm going to use webbers. I mean, I can't let those let faster ships be faster than me. No, wait, that doesn't make sense...

Seriously, since your Caldari, fit up a few Merlins, Krestels , Condors, Join RvB and get some Gun time under your belt. All the Advice , Videos, Postings are no substitute for the real thing, that's how you learn in the Eve universe. Blink

I remember you made posts far more worthy of character deletion than this thread some years ago. I used to call you "Tipsy" around that time.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

So… did you also delete your character?

Why is BB the correct term? It's called Battle Ships = BS not Battle Bhips.

1. Webifiers have a limited range (10k if I'm not mistaken) which means that faster ships can still maintain range on the slower ones. So, the only purpose of the webifier would be in close quarter combat, where it successfully turns cool looking and fast maneuvering ships into motionless blobs rolling around in some kind of a pudding-like substance. To me it seems that Webifiers are only there to help the bigger ships slow down frigates that are silly enough to close within 10k range so that they're easier to hit with those big and slow tracking guns.

No... Frigates fight ranges are mostly under 10km
And... Webs are also used to slow down bigger ships.

Better solution? POINT DEFENSE TURRETS!

Better solution? Small turrets or light missiles

Anu Swaraj wrote:

2. I don't really see the validity of the BBs (the correct term for battleship instead of BS - lol) having to use a World of Warcraft kind of spell in order to balance themselves out against the speed and maneuverability of smaller craft. In my opinion BBs should balance out against faster craft in some other way (it could even be drones instead of point defense missiles/turrets).

BattleShips (not BattleBhips) are not meant to fight frigates... The only exception are the Rapid MIssiles... All the turrets have high sig radius... Hitting smaller targets would always mean lesser damage. It's not impossible though.

Anu Swaraj wrote:

3. I don't see frigates having a module that could nullify the BB's advantage in shields and firepower via some silly "Remover of Shields and Firepower I." module.

Webs does not remove shields and firepower of a BattleBhip

Anu Swaraj wrote:

Also, I dislike the fact that ships can fully repair any amount of damage done to their structure/armor/shields whilst in space.

Because... The future... We use nanites (as in robotic repair unit) to do the job. So its not really that impossible.

1. Start the game without finding out what is involved and what to expect from the game.

2. Come on to the forums when unrealistic set of expectations are inevitably proved as being false.

3. Proceed to tell everyone that you are an ace space pilot of 20 years experience in the genre, and that CCP is doing it wrong (after successfully running the game for over ten years) and that Battleships should in fact be called BBs, webifiers should be removed from the game, along with a host of other nonsensical changes.

4. When players try to explain how the game actually works and that it is really good once you get the hang of it, proceed to tell them that you have nothing more to learn, a couple of days fighting NPCs is more than enough to master the combat system.

5. Fly terribly fit ships repeatedly into their impending death.

6. Discover that all the deaths including the fittings are recorded for all to see and in frustration biomass character after realising that you have made a complete fool of yourself.

I'd suggest this thread is a pretty good example of how not to start your eve experience.

Watch these OP

Some interesting video's about what can happen in pvp combat but in a Tournment style match

EVE Online – Alliance Tournament XII Day 8 - Finals
EVE Online Fanfest 2015: World's Collide Tournament - Tranquility vs Serenity

Some of the abilities like Web can make all the difference in what can happen, a mechanic very much needed for keeping things interesting in EVE online.

These kinda fights are on a small scale compared to what can happen in a massive battle in EVE online, the battle system is more complex then what you actually think it is.

EVE is like a chess game, the idea is simple, but the order of moves can be complex & what you choose to do will effect the out-come.

EVEBoard ...Just over 60million skill points, each skill was chosen for a reason. I closed my eyes & clicked another skill to train... "BINGO...!!!" ... "This time i got something usefull"

I don't know much about the OP except what he posted. He did give me an impression of how he was but you never can tell. While I hate it that he quit, truth is he probably would have come to hate EVE anyways so him leaving is actually the smart move.

But I'd hazard to offer this: I think he was WAY to rigid in his thinking to be able to enjoy EVE. I've known a lot of people like that, one dude I knew briefly in 2008 told me he was quitting (true quote here) because "any game that has 'battleships that aren't CAPITAL SHIPS is too stupid for me to play" lol. He also went on about how a 'carrier carrying battleships is freaking blasphemy' lol.

So this guy talking about the BB designation just reminded me of that guy. You need a certain flexibility to come into any game but especially EVE, a game that says 'screw convention'.

Damn that guy was arrogant. How do you expect to enter someone's house and just start re-arranging all the furniture because you've worked at Ikea for the last 20 years? In what universe is this going to end well? Next time you join, be more humble. Or just don't try to be the next Eve messiah for starters.

- Combat system is way too straight forward and utterly lacking in depth. It basically boils down to a few numbers like DPS and Shield/Armor values. There's simply no "I've just landed a critical hit on the enemy's deflector, therefore, his shields are down. Fire EVERYTHING NAU!" kind of thing. It's kind of silly that a ship left on 10HP functions exactly the same as his undamaged counterpart i.e. individual modules like guns don't get damaged at all... I would also like to see more options in terms of evasive maneuvers and stuff like that.

The combat system is simplistic, more so than many would like, and CCP has talked of changing it. But it serves the purpose of keeping things simple enough that several hundred of us can be in a big battle all at once. A more complicated system would be hard on this single shard universe.

Quote:

- I just can't except the fact that in a whole universe there is no option for peaceful exploration. Must every single anomaly, nebula or ancient relic be guarded by whatever ominous presence in form of Pirates-of-whatever-menacing-name...It just makes the whole exploration career look scripted rather than liberating.

You must not be doing the right sites, most 'exploration' sites in EVE don't have defending rats, you are probally finding 'combat sites'. Of course combat sites has rats in them lol.
Quote:

- Some in game modules, like the Stasis Webifier for example, are more reminiscent of WoW/LoL spells, than a space game mechanic.

Modules like webs are necessary, if you didn't have webs, people would just fly out of range all the time, creating not fun gameplay.

You should ask WHY something exists before criticizing it.

Quote:

- I don't get why there are no point defense weapons for Battleships/Battle-cruisers (so they don't have to rely on silly WoW spells like the Webifier)

Point defense weapons for BC and BS are called "other people in space ships". EVE isn't a solo game ('soloing' is possible however, just not the focus of the game).

They still Have Webs? Such inferior technology.;)
