Jackdaw?!? Seriously?

Look, those "change a spare tire" car-jacks in our cars were the inspiration for the Jackdaw. Calling it the Jackdaw was the cherry on top, with resultant tears being farmed by CCP's "art" department.

Some folks grief miners. Some folks grief CCP. The CCP art department griefs everyone.

Hi Havnt read your comments about this and if the name is stupid or not or if its consistent since its a bird and among the smarter ones.

Have anybody googled Jackdaw?

It¨s a ship in assasins creed lore....

Got nothing against the name BUT I MUST BE A "BRAIN FART" to name the ship the same as an assasins creed ship....

You google it and end up with that ...

Only a Point and comming from me propably a good and valid one :)

Why not go for "Millenium Falcon" that¨s a bird to?

So Jackdaw got invented by the creators of AC?

There couldn't possibly be any older mentioning of it,
rendering any connectio to AC completely irrelevant? :/

Snipe or Shrike.

My votes.

...or Exocet (not a bird, but a "flying fish" is close enough in my eyes and it's a French anti-ship missile)

I don't understand why the jackdaw doesn't look like a jackdaw?
Or put it in this way, a jackdaw looks like a cell phone tower?!

I like Caldari's naming using bird names.
But why the name and appearance do not resemble?

Dnt call it Shrike. Dumbass name, not all ships have to sound horrifying or menacing. Also if it doesnt fit with caldari, why does the Scorpion exist (or is it actually a name of a bird too!?!?)

Been around for ages, never thought to look closely to the naming of ships, spec. Caldari ones What?
As somebody already stated, lots of them are named after birds - rook, raven, blackbird, corax..
So, since we all like to discus all things eve related, here are my two cents on matter.

Personally I don't like Jackdaw name for a ship, even Shrike looks better although I don't like that one too it just doesn't feels Caldari-sh, or even Eve-ish for that matter, but I can understand where CCP are coming from with this, a quick look on the Wikipedia -
Quote:
Corvidae is a cosmopolitan family of oscine passerine birds that contains the crows, ravens, rooks, jackdaws, jays, magpies, treepies, choughs and nutcrackers.[1][2][3] In common English they are known as the crow family, or, more technically, corvids. There are over 120 species. The genus Corvus, including the jackdaws, crows and ravens, makes up over a third of the entire family.

So to keep in with CCP general idea regarding some of the Caldari ships, and their desire to name another ship like a bird from Corvidae family, here's a couple of Corvus species who's names are somewhat better suited imho:
Enca - Corvus enca - Slender-billed crow
Kubaryi - Corvus kubaryi - Mariana crow
Meeki - Corvus meeki - Bougainville crow
Orru - Corvus orru - Torresian crow
However, not all Caldari ships are named after birds (Scorpion, Badger, Basilisk,..) but we can safely assume that at least it has to be named after an animal, mystic (Phoenix, Rokh,..) or not (Moa).

Golem, Widow, Ferox, Naga, Kitsune, Badger, Tayra, Rokh, Scorpion, Leviathan, Cerberus, Onyx, Basilisk, Caracal, Manticore

Im sure there may be some I missed or messed up on, but there seems to be a slight few 'Birdless' names for caldari, so the bird argument is invalid imo.

No too long ago any time I wanted to talk about shield fits for Minmatar all people would repond along the lines with, "Fly a Drake then train for a Tengu."

I hate to break it to you but the Rokh is actually a mythical bird (also spelt Roc or Rukh), other than that you're right, the rest aren't birds.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

There are Onyx birdfeeders (brand name I think though)
There is also a Widowbird and sometimes the Coal Tit is called the Badger Bird

Jackdaw just don't sound right, it sounds weak and limp-wristed.
I do see the link as it a bird from the Crow family, but what about it's real name? 'Corvus monedula'

Corvus keeps the link and just plain sound better... imho.

EDIT...
Or what about the Brown Trembler?
