People with anxiety disorder or major depression. I'm not kidding here, I suffer from both and have to say that playing eve makes my symptoms worse, reason is that eve is not just like any other shooter game, eve has a lot of psychological intense situations, psychological warfare. So I would recommend people with mental disorders to take that into account, when playing this game.

p.s. sorry English is not my first language, and inb4 the local EvE General discussion trolls start to hijack and rip my thread apart, with their high-school hallway BS.

Are you a miner?

Because insulting the "trolls" is pretty stupid.
And it makes me believe you are the actual troll,
because this really is just calling them all out.

Is it necessary to insult people this way?
Why do you have to do that?

Maybe we should properly socialise you, you ass.

Listen to this man, he's giving a sound advice.

Eve is like a giant virtual high school yard. It exposes what people truly are. If you show weakness, they'll purposefully try to make your ingame life as miserable as possible.

Trust noone, don't fly anything you can't afford to lose, never grow attached to anything ingame, assume that everything that's too good to be true is a scam, and generally don't give a flying thukk.

If you can't, this particular game might be not for you.

I must be playing this game wrong... or perhaps it's others not understanding what this game entails that's an issue.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing else quite like EvE.

I have both severe depression and anxiety (under control) and have no issue playing this game at all. Ignore the trolls and you'll be fine. If you can't take psychological warfare, remove yourself from the situation or don't PvP.

I get anxious when moving expensive stuff but I think that happens to most of us.

I discourage running with scissors.

I suffer from anxiety and depression and Eve hasn't really caused me any problems. My heart does feel like it is about to burst out of my chest in pvp but I think that is pretty normal.

If a video game is making you miserable you probably should not play it.

However you could also look at the ability to simulate "dangerous" experiences on demand as a opportunity.

Something tells me you like to provoke your own symptoms.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Genuine reply follows:

It isn't EVE per se.

Both depression and anxiety have a wide spectrum of severity levels and some players may find that playing EVE, along with other games, offers a degree of release and relaxation that might not be attainable through other activities open to them.

As with any illness, make sure you consult with your doctor if you have any concerns that your hobby might provoke a relapse or could potentially hold back your recovery.

It doesn't make your symptoms worse, it makes you aware you have some active issues. You can make an effort to confront them and see they're not as big or serious as your mental need for comfort attempts to make them. Remember it is just a video game and your psyche doesn't get hurt, only your ego. Your fears have no logical reason to exist because you can always log out and do something else.

As for the tension this game generates always regard it as a good thing, few other games, if any, manage to achieve that.

The psychology, and social psychology found in Eve is interesting but not unusual. Gaming in general has taken a turn more towards pandering to narcissist the last 2 years or so, while those with other *atrributes* were on the decline.

However, in the past 6 months or so, the tide has started to turn away from this playstyle as the narcissist type play has become stale and stagnant.

With that said, I myself used to be a brain surgeon and found Eve online. Soon I quit that gig and began wearing a green wizard hat and am sending this from my yacht. Of course I jest.

Don't take the game to seriously and have fun!

The problem of this game is not the game itself but people playing it with bad mentality, like to make harassment, insults, ruining game experience.

Because CCP allows bad behavior (and that's why the number of subscriptions will never be high), people are destroying the game, that's all.

Most of EVE's "fun" comes from the "adrenalin rush". EVE is meant to be meaningful and EVE pew pew is meant to make adrenalin levels skyrocket.

Now, the point is that not everybody feels the same about adrenalin rush.

Some people get a disproportionate endorphin shot after ir, and think it's a pleasant experience -those are about 20% of the general population.

Most people feel several degrees of pleasure, with increased endorphin levels as the brain efforts to recover its biochemical balance, but never achieve the kind of outlandish reward the "rushers" get. (

Last, some people have naturally low endorphine levels or a faulty stress/reward biochemistry, and those people may not have an easy recovery from adrenalin rush or may even suffer a bad reaction, with increased stress after the event.

Depressive and people with high anxiety usually have faulty biochemicals, and most don't enjoy the adrenalin rush. They may even feel a worsening of their symptoms after their brain chemicals take a adrenalin hit. They may try to avoid adrenalin rush at all, adn for a very good reason.

The pont is that EVE is just a game. In the worst case, playing it is optional, but also is such a massive game that there's plenty of room to avoid adrenalin rushes or to try to adapt to them (desensitization by exposure may be a thing).

If eve triggers anxiety or depression for you on a serious level, then stop playing immediately. Please don't tell the rest of us that struggle with similar disorders not to play though. The community surrounding eve is excellent, and many of us turn to the community for help dealing with anxiety or depression. Even after a bad day, it never feels bad to blow up a freighter.
