I was out on a roam with friends, we were a medium-sized fleet containing several dozen frigates. We were traversing a rather long section of empty space, not having much luck finding good fights. The FC is directing a handful of roamers out looking for anyone we can harass while the rest of us are gate hopping. I accidentally lemming through one gate and I hear people chatting about it on comms:
"Did someone just jump through?"
"Yeah I think we have a lemming"
"There's a Chimera at XXX gate"

I look around and it takes me a moment to realize I'm right next to the roamer who has just reported the Chimera. There's this mostly empty gate and a Goonswarm Chimera is burning toward it at full speed, only moments away from going in. I scramble to report its location just as it jumps through. I immediately begin a gate crash, afterburner on. I'm thinking oh man oh man this is going to be good! Right before I jump through the gate I see a bomb heading for it and I'm like "sorry bomb, can't play, busy" all attention on the carrier.

We engage it and we're slowly working through its shields and it's got a swarm of acolytes out to shoot us with. We start shooting down the drones and it just keeps launching more, but eventually it runs out of acolytes and starts launching hobgoblins and warriors. We realize it's got too many so we go back to focusing on bringing the shields down. I start taking damage and I lock the drones that are on me and pop em...I went deep in armor but survived.

It's going down slowly and several of our ships are down but a lot of us are still neuting it so it can't do anything to boost back up. Eventually it breaks that crucial 30% mark and starts to go down even faster. The drones come back for me and finish the job, I'm a bit too slow to ask for reps and I have to say goodbye to my Atron.

We're a little surprised that nobody has come through to help the poor guy yet. I guess he was just out of his element today. Even that bomber didn't want to come help, though we probably would have just blew him up, too. So we're taking the Chimera through armor when I finally get targeted again and podded, so I have to just listen to the fight from here on. But soon enough those comforting words are heard on comms: "He's at 80% structure..." Still no backup for the poor guy.

To make a long story short, the same thing happened that always happens. Goons won.
Well I guess I can't leave you guys hanging without a killmail. Here's my Atron, it's all I have:

Too bad he didn't die.

Sounds like you had some fun.

No matter the outcome, fun is what it's all about. Blowing up ships is nice and all, but it's the great fights people tend to remember. Not the kills themselves*.

*My opinion only. Plenty will take issue with it.

I actually have to suspect it was a planned attack. The outgate was camped by Goons but none came to his aid. He got out of there with 40+ killmails.

Doubtful. Goons aren't gonna let one carrier pilot get all the kills.

There must be a lot of capital pilots being sold ... only explanation for the scrap heap. Smile

Glad you had fun. o7

That must have been mind blowing. 63? 65 m/s? I'm in awe.

Unless it's Zungen.
"Nah, don't jump yet guys, don't want to scare 'em off."
"Now?"
"Nah, it's fine, I'm tanking, waiting to see if any more show up."
"How about now?"
"They're dead."

Bunch of frigs with probably about 100 applied dps each on average - from a quick skim of the BR I'd hazard he was bait tanking them to get kills - I can't see enough (obviously dunno what else was there that didn't get on KMs) to seriously endanger a moderately well fit carrier triage fit or otherwise.
