My next mission ship?

Hello,

I come to seek some advice on what ship I should aim for next to do level 4's in. I started off in a Dominix, then moved to a Navy Domi. Now I am missioning in Caldari space (typically Guristas as the enemy) and I picked up a passive shield tank Rattlesnake.

I quite like my rattlesnake, but honestly I don't think it is really all that much faster than my dominix. Although it is a lot less to manage with its passive shield tank.

Now, I had considered training next for a Tengu but as I am fighting Guristas I am having some concern with getting jammed quite a lot as I have read the tengu doesn't have great sensor strength. Perhaps someone with some experience fighting Guristas in a Tengu could chime in? This ship appeals the most to me really, I think it looks fantastic and just the fact that it is a nimble cruiser makes me want it.

I have also considered the Navy Raven, but it seems the fitting will be quite a bit more expensive.

I would love to hear some opinions.

Tengu is Disso Solution sub and maybe a ECCM or two will rarely if ever get jammed. But alas missiles are boring so it's up to you

I see, what kind of strength do you think I should be aiming for to make jamming a rarity?

If you already have drone skills, drones are the best tool against jamming. Both the Domi and Rattler are big tank ships, more than others. So maybe you would like a more gank-oriented ship.

If you already have Gallente BS go for a Mach and the real fun begins.

Rattlesnake can be quite fast if you fit it up for javelin torps, with 2x range rigs, 1x sentry rig, 2 BCU's and decent skills (mostly IV) I was able to get 700+dps at 55km, still with a 600dps tank, all t2 fit. That covers the engagement range of most missions, and swapping from Garde to Bouncer will still down rats at long rats, although slower. On the whole, much better then using cruises. Not as good as a marauder/nightmare/mach/etc though, but probly the best drone boat setup. Sorry but I don't have the exact fit saved anymore.

Re: ECCM, it's very hard to prevent because of the number of enemies. All you can expect is to make it less common.

you were in a NAVY DOMI, the fact that you switched to anything else is beyond me

You won't get jammed very often in a Tengu using an ECCM + Dissolution Rig. You will have ~55 Sensor Str. which will help very much.

A Navy Domi is quite nice, especially for Guri, but you can't use your guns if you're jammed and the Drones often fire at something else, but the Jammers, once they kill their last target.

In Caldai Space a Tengu will be one of the best ships, besides a CNR or Golem, which require more SP to fly.

SNI or Rattlesnake have a nice tank, but I woulldn't fly them, because they just can't put out enough DPS to justify their presence in Level 4 Missions.

I've flown a Domi, Navy Raven, Rattlesnake and Maelstrom in missions (a long with a lot of others) and I can assure you that I've never blown through missions as fast as I have done in the following Dominix fit:

[Dominix, Mission Gank Domi v2]
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Damage Control II

Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Non-Inertial Ballistic Screen Augmentation I
F-S15 Braced Deflection Shield Matrix
V-M15 Braced Multispectral Shield Matrix

425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
Drone Link Augmentor II

Large Sentry Damage Augmentor I
Large Core Defence Field Extender I
Large Core Defence Field Extender I

Bouncer II x5
Berserker II x5
Warrior II x5

The above is fit out for an Angels mission, but just switch out exp for therm hardener with Guristas. I use it for almost all my missions now - even ones where you'd expect incoming DPS to be too great, but it kills things so freaking quickly that its shield buffer is more than enough in most cases, provided your skills are excellent.

There are some missions it can't do, like Worlds Collide for example, where things are just too close and the DPS too great, but anything where you can choose your range it will blow through in no time (sentries hit out to 81km with my skills, Antimatter hits to 51+59km on the rails).

If you have the skills to fly it, give it a try :)

This one time, I like, totally did some stuff.

Missions are boring. A Tengu is the only way to make them fun.
