I remember when this lexicon of terms was created by players, they named the language "Napanii", which I personally think is pretty cool.

While "Caldarian" is used extensively in "The Empyrean Age" and "Templar One" It's always made me cringe to read it, same with "Gallentean".

Typically Amarr, Caldari, Gallente and Matari are used when it comes to referencing races, and these are the standard outside the novels. Matari was actually a player created term that went into circulation back in 2004, and was adopted as canon because it works so well.

I would say calling something Gallentean is perfectly fine, depending on the context of the situation. You even use both to refer to the same thing: You wouldn't however get someone going "I am Gallente" as thats pretty much the same as saying "I am Britain" - the only time i could see that as coming up is invoking their particular bloodline as Gallente ("I am Gallente, hear my holoreels"). Most other times they would probably refer to themselves as Gallentean

I refer to pretty much everything from the Caldari State as "Caldari"..

Oh, for reference also, I forget where I read it, but there was a player study of the languages of New Eden a few years back that summarised origins quite nicely and seemed to fit:

Amarr:

Caldari:

Gallente:

French

Matari:

Icelandic
Old Norse

Of course, these aren't canon, as we've never really written anything in depth about the languages of New Eden, but it'd be cool to flesh them out at some point Big smile

I'd be a bit surprised that A. there's no obvious English influence anywhere, and B the Matari tribes don't have any roots the various African languages.

Would we potentially find some other earth language roots in the Talocan, Sleeper, Yan Jung, and Jovian languages and cultures?

neat. I know there is another space game coming that had a stretch goal to make alien languages. And though i though that was silly for a game that has yet to be released, i think it could be interesting to flesh out the ideas of the 5 racial languages, with jove begin the 5th of course. It would give some role players a new way to play, and could make for some ah interesting conversations at fan fest

Indeed. Also, I will admit the Caldarian Language came from 4th District, and I have not yet found the source of the Amarrad Language although neither are original, I simply posted a Glossary. I have already engaged in conversations in Caldarian with some corp-mates:)

Alright. No problem, just thought that posting it on General Discussion would allow more people to see and read it.

I'm Arabian and I can confirm that some of the Amarrian words originated from Arabic. but in some way they are not very accurate Smile, for an example:

Soul in Arabic pronounced Ruh (Roh), in Amarrian runh I don't know if the "n" is silent in the pronouncing or not .
Sahibe in Amarrian means holder, but actually it means " friend" in Arabic.
Insan doesn't mean spirit, Insan means human being.

Amarrad was created by Horatius Caul I think, and almost all of the work on developing it has taken place on the OOC Backstage forums.

Napanii is older and I'm unsure who started it. Give me a while and I will find the pdf file I have with all the words in.

Hope you all enjoy these, and find the format a little more useful than a flat list Lol

Hey!

Glad to see someone found Amarrad, I use it myself however it is worth mentioning, I think that it isn't designed as a fully fleshed out conversational language. Its in-universe reasoning for why it isn't translated by our translator modules is that it is so ancient and beyond being spoken at all anywhere.

Rather it is something to pepper your dialogue with to add flavour and immersion (perhaps your character wants to show their erudition and so says hello in Amarrad, or you use Amarrad to name your ships, or when exclaiming 'My God!' you say it in Amarrad instead, etc.).

So with that ashalagram Blink

I thinking the same can be said of Napanii, they're not really intended for people to hold full conversations in (partly because the effort involved in learning a completely fictitious language could be better spent elsewhere), rather just a way for people to add flavour to their speech.

For anyone designing languages, there is a really cool language generator you can search. Basically you type in up to 3 letters or numbers for each english letter, and then you can easily translate it because every letter will have another letter for it.

Not sure what the point is in reposting the old Amarrad glossary. Without context it just looks like gibberish (>implying it's not). For anyone interested, I'd suggest following the link Kala posted. It's also in my signature.

I know a few words were lazily lifted straight out of some languages, but I don't think those were any of them. Just a case of accidental synchronicity.
