I've been testing this out on the newest cider version, so far I haven't got it to crash.

Wait, what? Newest Cider version? I assume that is one we don't have, but soon will have? What bugs have been fixed? Is the freeze forever bug (with the ship remaining in space until you force quit) bug been fixed? Will we be able to have DoD actually work as a DoD system?

And, most importantly: When?

Yeah, sorry for misleading you! This is on a version we are hoping to deploy with the next release. DoD should work as intended, we had to deploy a workaround for Scylla, which will be removed with the new version. I haven't seen the "freeze forever" bug you've mentioned in my testing. I will be aiming to provide a full list of fixes included when we are a bit closer to release.

Best,

Thanks! That's great news. I did not feel mislead, its just that it looked like you had good news, and I wanted to know all about it. And you, in fact, had good news!

I hope the new cider also translates direct-x to open GL better. But maybe that's hoping for too much.

Yep, I am getting a lot of crashing going on since Scylla as well. Lost 2 ships as a result of it. Whoopy doo...

I am getting a combination of different crashes. Sometimes it says socket closed, this has happened about 4 times tonight.

Other times I just get the entire Mac frozen and then have to do a hard boot which is not fun. It is on these occasions I have come back to find myself in either a new clone or a capsule. Lost a complete set of +5s and a deadspace fitted T2 ship in what should have been a no-brainer escape. I know from a decade with CCP they won't reimburse me, they never have despite me seeing complete asses get reimbursed over their own stupidity. Anyway, back to the technical issues.

I had it crash once when I had an e-mail notification pop-up.

I had it crash when my phone was syncing with iTunes.

I had it crash when I had a automatic software update working in the background.

I have had it crash pretty much when anything else happens on the Mac and Eve doesn't like it. Particularly if it's port related.

Overall, in the last few days it has become virtually unplayable.

And yep, I am getting that Freeze forever bug A LOT!

Like after 10-60 mins in game, but seems to be multi-task related. I think there is some kind of memory leak in Eve so that if it has to share resources it just goes into a loop.

First rule of eve on a Mac: Turn off everything else.
E-mail should be off.
Itunes should be off, and certainly no syncing should be occurring.
Anything that could trigger an auto-update should be off.

What eve does not like is anything that causes communication with your computer. Kill it all. Kill it with fire.

I agree eve should not be this way. But it is.

Can I ask what you guys are doing when these crashes are occurring? Or is it fair to say there is no discernible pattern?

If you have two clients open in window mode, sometimes closing one will cause the other to hang.

This problem can be addressed by creating clones to use for multiple clients. You can find a guide here

My cloned client has been having issues locking up and such. Really don't wanna have to reset up all my windows. Seems to only start in the last day or two.
Been running fine since main patch day, but one of the newer ones might have hurt it somehow..

If anyone can help me find the crash logs, i'll send those to CCP

Just started playing this game on my imac last month. It has been fairly stable until yesterday 4/1. Now it crashes randomly about every 5-30 minutes. Game freezes for a about 10 seconds, then unfreezes and I can move around, then I get crash report and Eve closes. Turned off openGL and sound, but no affect. I'm not running any other programs.

It's kind of sad. EVE is a cool game and was stable for me until yesterday.

Any chance there might be support for AMD Radeon R9 M290X/M295X graphics cards? I got the "High" shader setting working on my old MacBook Air. At 1.5 fps... (the decimal point is correct).

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Here is an update on my Scylla experience:

After reading through most of the Mac related crashing posts, the one common thing that was mentioned most often as a "fix" for the client freezing/crashing was to turn OFF the audio. So I did that three days ago

Since then....NO CRASHES, NO FROZEN CLIENT WINDOW, NO ERRORS.

I have been re-adding the various graphics options one at a time to see if that affects the client stability. Will update again if I come across anything specific.

I have noticed how much of the gaming experience revolves around sound. It's a big loss and makes playing kind of one dimensional but at least I have stability now.

Kind of a sucky tradeoff.

I am currently running a late 2012 iMac with the latest OSX update and currently the biggest cause of crashes for me is from running more than one client at the same time and then closing one of them down. 90% of the time closing one client out of many will cause all clients to lock up and freeze. The only time it doesn't do this is if I force quit one of the clients and the others so far continue to run.

I have also had to resort to using eve in windowed mode as quite often due to the occasional crash causes the entire mac to lock up. (Can move mouse, but can't quit out of the eve client.)

Can also confirm that there is a significant reduction in performance since the last update, this is particularly noticeable with three clients.

Hi Tiberius,

Using Clonemaker to create different prefs folders and links for multiple clients mitigates this crash. Full instructions available here

With regards to the performance reduction, are you seeing this across the board? Or mainly running multiple clients? What graphics settings do you run each client with?

Cheers,

Sledge.

Thank you for this! I will try out clone maker tonight.

It's seems mostly to be since the last patch, and in particular its loading grids when undocking, landing on warp

When the space factory was first released the grid would load a lot faster than before as in I would see all the brackets of things and then the graphics would load up afterwards. Which was brilliant because before the client would just freeze while it loaded and then everything would appear.

However, The same issue has now come back, where a grid and all UI can take a good few seconds to load. On one particular instance I found b my ship had floated off the undock for maybe 15-20km (frigate mind) before the grid loaded and I was able to take control.

This happens irrespective of what graphical settings I use.

I figure I'l chime in on this too. Game is too unstable to play. I can't even manage to scan down an anomaly before it crashes. I'm stuck at a safe bookmark until this is fixed. I'll keep an eye on this thread. If there is a fix I'll resub. Also want to thank all your devs for making it possible to play EVE Online on my Mac in the first place. Great game.

Just FYI, there's a DDoS attack in progress against Tranquility, so not all disconnects are going to be the fault of the client.

Thanks for letting us know about that. Hopefully it will all soon be resolved since I would very much like to play again when its fixed. Hopefully they will let us know here when it has been.

Getting an error when using Spotlight (cmd + Spacebar) to start EVE. The launcher will start completely empty and it will open a web search in Safari for "none en steam token "

Submitted bug report.

What's interesting is that I got the exact same thing trying to run /Applications/Singularity.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher while attempting to find a way to connect to Singularity.

So there's something about the particular way that Spotlight is deciding to launch EVE that's causing that.

I am also experiencing crashes when switching audio devices (ie plugging in headphones). I haven't tested fully, but it seems as though eve is also unstable while I have mumble running. Has the updated cider build been included in the patches yet, or is it planned for the "Codename Mosaic" update?
