Besides taking 3-4 minutes to start the game the first time every time I start my pc (since the big patch), now the smaller patches take 10 times longer to install, 90% of that time being "checking shared cache resources".

^ This, in game performance seems to have improved, but now the launcher needs a minute or two before I can log in...and it's doing this every time I run the damned thing, not just for patches.

Granted, if that's what it will cost to fix the in game lag, I'll take it, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about the trade off.

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

Yeah same here my cache has to load every time and I've downloaded the entire thing. The game performance has improved and that makes me happy.

I always used to play EVE a lot on my laptop as I travel a lot. (I play EVE on my Desktop only when I'm home).

This new launcher has made it a pain for me to lauc the game Sad

Even with "Download all resources" selected, the client takes at least 20 minutes to give the awesome "Play" button! Cry

It just gets stuck at "Creating patch 0.0%" Arrgghh! Oops

P.S: I have Kaspersky Endpoint 10. I have even switched off the protection and still no changes!

@Devs: I love the Download-On-Demand concept but fix these issues asap!!

Try this, I've noticed something rather odd about the launcher in that if I don't keep my mouse hovering over part of the launcher physically, it will not visually update it's progress (weird window focus issue?). Move your mouse on and off the launcher while it's updating or checking the cache and you'll see what I mean. I noticed this when the courser icon would stop blinking in the password field when my mouse was somewhere else on desktop but then would begin blinking again once I hovered my mouse back on the launcher somewhere.

So I've been trying to figure out wtf has happened since the patch. I'm having all these exact issues and was told to defrag my hard drive on reddit. Sounds crazy as I haven't had to defrag anything in years. Anyways, I gave it a shot and of course it didn't do anything.

So I started trying to figure out what was going on and I noticed that the SharedCache folder on my secondary hard drive has to index itself every time I reboot my pc and launch the game. I have the game installed on my secondary hard drive along with the SharedCache folder. My OS drive uses my SSD. However, my secondary drive is 7200rpm and my pc is a beast. I run many games this way and never have the issues I am having here. I can hear my hard drive working, making lots of noise with eve.

Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about.

This was NOT happening before the DOD thing, and I had eve on the secondary drive then. Eve was running smooth as butter.

If I move my SharedCache folder to the SSD, it seems to fix the issue. (I think, haven't tested it too much. But this is BS fix.)

At this point I think either eve has always had some kind of crappy installer that EVEN though I pointed it to my secondary drive, some of the resources were stored on my ssd. And now that I truly have everything on my secondary drive I am experiencing lag.

Or, the DOD thing has messed something up.

Pretty sleepy, sorry if this came off confusing.

edit: want to add, have the 'resource loading' thing constantly also, even though I downloaded all the files. ???

I didn't notice any improvements in performance, probably because I was already at full fps always. But this crap of having to wait 5 minutes when starting the client and/or switching between alts is gamebreaking for me.

I'm not seeing a lot of positives (from the client perspective) for the Scylla download-on-demand (DoD) feature, CCP.

1) 61,195 files in 285 folders. Most of these files are itsy-bitsy bit files, some smaller than the default cluster size.
Have your techies gone mad, thinking everyone runs a server level hardware? This simply need to be reduced to manageable level.

2) The performance impact from all that i/o and proc time reading bazillion files is already apparent in the client (unless you're completely blind to it).
Pray tell us you have a solid plan to mitigate this in a timely manner ... and not take years chewing at it.

Yesterday we had a fleet fight with ~700 in local.
The performance was so crappy that my client kept hanging a lot for a few seconds and with really really bad fps.

Everytime that we have warped back to the grid i had a lockup of at least 3/5 seconds.

And no, its not my computer. Most of the people in fleet were having the same issue.

Im playing with this same PC for some time now and NEVER ever have experienced anything like this. It just feel totally broke.

So, I'm using HDD and I have this terrible performance when I'm running two windows. I can't move my cache folder to SSD because *gasp* I don't have a ******* SSD! Yeah, yeah, I know, SSD is new and popular thing so **** everyone who can't afford it, but from CCP, I expected more mature and profesional approach than to simply **** over everyone who is using old hardware.

Eve was running smooth as butter before Scylla. After the Scylla download-on-demand (DoD) feature gaming performance has dropped with the random loading of resources.
The DoD is a great concept but isn't practical if you enjoy activities in low sec/ null sec where roaming from one system to the next and having to quickly engage/ avoid war targets is your thing. It becomes very frustrating when engaging or aligning out followed by screen freezing/ lagging, followed by resource loading for 5 - 15 seconds, followed by a negative outcome.

The DoD feature definitely doesn't add value to my gameplay at this stage.

Hope for the feature to get overhauled soon CCP.

I agree with Enherji, Ive heard alot of friends and people loosing ships, ive lost a ship personally to this from resource loading in the middle of a site when a ship appeared i haven't rendered. Lost 5 seconds of active tank on my svipul which is basically my death when i bled all my armor.

Yeah its really not practical to be honest.

Yeah same for me too, sometimes it takes up to 4mins for the exe file to actually start loading after starting it through launcher, and yes it all started with the DOD thingy even though I chose the launcher to download everything instead.

Dear CCP,

Please change the name of this game to "Resource Loading Online" or "Fu*k My Bandwidth Online" since that is what this "game" has become. Even after downloading all resources, your marvelous DoD still wants to download 7.61GB of data every time a small patch is released.

I mean, DoD is an awesome concept, who doesn't want their connection perpetually saturated while playing. Take my money, please!

Sincerely,

Black screen for 3-4 seconds when undocking is unacceptable when other people can see you straight away. Game is installed on a fast 850 EVO SSD with all resources downloaded.

Please file a bug report from within the game as soon as you can after experiencing this - this isn't normal and I'm curious to see the logs.

I will do it on next possible time too. 5 seconds are nothing for me. My Invul Timer ran out every time i undock first time from station after starting the client. Possible since Scylla release idk for how long. Same with respawning in space after starting a client.
