Thanks for reading, a friend and I have decided to give Eve a whirl and need help with why we are starting in different locations.

We both started our characters simultaneously and chose all the same options (bar our name ofc) and when we "entered world" I spawned in the dock in only my pod and he spawned in space already in his reaper 14.5au away.

Also I have Aura giving me tasks to do (bottom right of my display) first one being get my reaper and he has a "oopportunitys" panel....

It's very frustrating as we would really like to learn side by side but regardless of how many times we start new characters we both end up as described above.

We have both uninstalled completely and reinstalled using the same link, we have also deleted our characters and come back the next day and tried again.

Any help folks?

It is because CCP is doing a live test with the new 'tutorial' system. Your friend is one of the people selected for that test.

But actually this is great that you both have seperate 'tutorials' this way you cab compare your experiences (hiw did you like the old systen, what was clear and what wasnt, what should be improved/changed. The same for your friend for the new system).

Provide CCP with feedback on new vs old tutorial system so they can improve their 'first opinion on EVE' mechanics

There's a lot you two can learn about the game that way.
My personal advice: get together on the Weekend and play next to each other. Try to help each other and seek help in the ingame help channels - there are enough vets there eager to give advice and a lot of new Players asking a lot of "stupid" question so you don't have to feel too dumb ;)
Eve is a tough game to get into, but very rewarding once you're in, so don't give up!

Also if you're really stuck and Need some tips or explanations feel free to message me ingame - I'm always happy to help out my fellow Minmatar friends ;)

You'll get to interact with each other after a few tens of minutes. Your initial tutorials are different as already mentioned, but you will hit a point where you will have the same seven choices presented to you (five career training agents, the Sisters of EVE arc, or going out alone).

As other's have stated CCP is trying a new NPE (New Player Experience) they rolled it out in an A/B testing format. I think it's possible that the accounts are flagged as such so no matter how many times you re-role new toons it will wind up the same.

The options that I can think of are"

-file a petition with a GM to get both of you guys on the same system. Ideally only the one of you that wants to be changed to the other's NPE should file so that you don't both get changed.

-both of you could run through both NPE meaning you meet up and help each other out doing one then the other. Eve does have in game voice coms, I've not used it before but I am aware it's there so that might help.

-you could both run your different NPEs separately and compare notes. Like other's have said both the tutorial system and "opportunities" don't take that long.

Eve is not like other MMOs with quest lines that show you how to do everything in game from the basics all the way up to max level "end game" content. The NPE in Eve is very basic and short and once it's done you two will be able to follow each other on what ever you want to do. After the NPE is over you will be left on your own to pick and choose what you want to do with no direction in game playing being given to you. Said more clearly after the NPE is over you have to go seek out what game play you choose, it will not be presented to you by default.

So if you are thinking that you two will be stuck with totally different system for all of eternity that is not the case. Like other's have pointed out you are talking about a very short amount of time before it does not matter.

OP, you started out in space with Aura offering you various tasks you can do to learn the game. All these tasks can be completed nonlinearly and is different from the traditional tutorial your friend has available. The traditional tutorial will over some of the same things but there is a bit more reading to do and the tutorial tends to clutter up your screen a bit more. You don't need to finish any of these tutorials (yours or your friend's) to play the game. I would suggest you try the tutorials out since they teach you some of the basics.

Look in my signature for all the Opportunity tasks (these are the ones available to you, but not your friend). You can share this with your friend if you wanted him to see what's available to you. If you were interested in doing things together, then:

1. Go to People & Places and search for your friend, right click his name and add to contacts.
2. Have your friend do the same
3. Form a fleet with him
4. Whenever you two are in the same system, you can warp to each other by right clicking each other's name
5. If you're not in the same system, you can go to the map (F11) and filter on "your info" > "fleet members" in the map control panel. This will tell you where on the map your friend is.
