Back into the structure - will you get into owning a pos

This is for anyone, but I'm specifically asking people who can afford one, but have never owned one. The changes on the way are big and I'm looking forward to them, but how about you.

Are you going to get into the new pos system, thinking about it, or flat out 'no'.

I'll stick with my current strategy.

Let someone else go through the hassle of setting up and maintaining a space structure. I'll just mooch research and build space on it.

I'd like more small, specialized structures but my interest has been tickled.

I am most definitely planning on getting a structure.

I've always had to rely on setting up my mobile lab at a corp POS which means a director has to anchor and manage it, and according to the game the corp owns it. I plan on getting my own lab and anchoring it as mine where I want/need it, though the corp can still use it.

The potential changes outlined so far look very interesting, even though it's a lot of speculation with no concrete design decisions yet.

So a cautious yes, I'm interested in what options the new structures will provide.

The shields are a major reason to have one.
It doesn't look like they will be less hassle to run.

So, less inclined.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

I didn't read the dev blog ... have they added reasons to own a POS?

Is it work? Do I have to expend effort and energy to run a POS? I don't work very hard in Eve or RL, so it doesn't seem like something I'd want to do.

Well POS are going away, eventually.

It may be easier to lose a research / manufacturing / whatever structure.

If stations have their services removed, I expect free or fee stations to prosper.

EDIT: I currently own two large and one small POS

Proposals include....
Unified storage.
No fiddly placing of structures in space around it, just fit it like a ship.
Fuel is only used when you actually do something like use an assembly line.
- One structure can do all using service modules, just less efficient than several specialist structures using bonused service modules.

Hard to say. I am curious about what kinds of environments they will bring into being, what sort of dependence we will have upon them and finally whether or not they become a driver of both enterprise and conflict.

I am hoping that the environment is quite varied. If they all have, say, sensor strength in the same categorical group of engagability, then they'll be a bit lumped together all of the time. Perhaps some environmental variables would help create a kind of dynamism. With the short development cycle, I'd say just take a chance and see what happens. Living universes are dynamic, and responding to change is half the fun of being a thinking beast.

For manufacturing, I would like to see something along the lines of less portable specialization. That would be something anchored in space rather than stored in your noggin as with most specialty manufacturing. Reflection on a lot of popular science fiction (Clone Wars, Dune, etc.) and history points out the importance of trade relationships between groups. Perhaps if there were a way to spend a lot of money in the form of risked assets to produce a large stream of one specialized product, the opportunity costs could make for interestingly interdependent gameplay.

Naturally, I am also interested in what sort of obstacles corporate leaders will feel the need to put in the way of their subordinates regarding the new structures, and how people will respond to new opportunities.

I had a large shadow serpentis tower once. I had a partner who owned some of the support structures and labs. I was going to put another one up maybe a regular small tower but I have been waiting for them to fix them ever since they started talking about it. But now that stations have unlimited job slots kind of not really needed.

But I do plan to dabble a little with the new stuff once it arrives.

I might just set up one or more of the new structures, such as the R&D labs and/or propaganda center.

They stated this to be one of their goals:

"Everyone who wants to use a structure, does: We want structures to be as widely used as possible, by removing artificial barriers or mechanics that may be in the way. This has to stay within a reasonable risk versus reward scope, of course, and as such the most rewarding structures should always be vulnerable to attack."

They failed miserably. With the suggested system small entities and single players are discouraged from operating a player structure bigger than a mobile depot. Any structure larger than medium may be destroyed/snatched by a single ship with an entosis link. There won't be any afk defenses so you are required to babysit the structure every day. No weekend trips. No holidays. Even if you just decide to go to the movies once in a while, don't expect your platform to still be there on your return.

Only the least intelligent players will put out loot pinatas out there.

I'n curious how CCP plans to salvage the concept put forward.

They haven't given enough details yet to form a decent opinion.

I'm excited for the changes, but cautiously so.

Beyond the initial setup, running a POS isn't that hard after fuel blocks came to be. Managing moon-goo extractors isn't bad - has its quirks - but overall it is relatively straight forward. Once CCP starts putting out details of how moon mining will work, I'll be able to tell you whether or not I'll continue running that kind of operation.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

What did I miss? They give the POS shields a new cool effect only to remove them?

I had no interest in POS before
CCP changes POSes to be 'more popular'
But they don't provide reasons to use them if you don't do it now
