You can say it does not until you are blue in the face, but other MMO's beat CCP at the "holiday gift game" because they planned it well.

Other MMO's don't offer a choice of gifts.

It was on the log in screen...
... a news item on the front page
... a dev blog
... multiple reminder posts
... an email sent to you

The only thing "poor" I see is this thread in general, and your reply in particular.

To be fair we all saw that this would happen no matter what steps CCP took in informing people. The problem isn't that the steps CCP took to inform people weren't good enough, but the knowledge of the simple fact, that you simply can't reach all the players that way no matter what you do. This fact alone makes the current gift system fundamentally a bad one.

I would have made the system so, that everyone would have automagically gotten a default gift(free bonus remap), but you had the option of changing it to something else in account management. This way everyone gets something without having to log, choose or redeem anything, but those who pay attention to the anouncements have the option to choose a more appropriate gift for themselves. As the system is automatic and has a good and useful default gift, it minimizes any bad feelings caused to the players in the likely case they missed it and radically reduces the amount of work the GMs have to do afterward. It's a win-win for everyone involved.

Isn't Santa only supposed to bring gifts for good boys and girls?

I'm amazed anyone on these forums qualifies tbh. Shocked

Heh, I almost added this same though nearly word for word at the end of my post. It's the only way I can think of that people wouldn't get hysterical about missing out on an imaginary gift. "Something" should have come to active account holders by default.

Of course, other MMO's have their issues as well.

WOT has a holiday special where you get 5X exp. for the first win of the day. The problem is they announced it only a couple of days in advance and it only lasts a few days... many will miss it.

I can only imagine what the forums here would have been like if they only got a couple of days notice about their gift. Perhaps they realized it though, and are giving a second gift, a free (fairly useless) tank. Not much to say about that, but at least they made sure people got something.

Much like CCP made sure everyone got two handy little implants... that apparently nobody cares to remember now.

I don't know how many times I read when the deadline was, but just realized yesterday that Christmas was almost here and I was too late to pick out my gift... maybe I should procrastinate less?Ugh

(I was not going to post this with dev badge because then the thread is flagged like it has some useful input from a dev, when it's just a useless story of my fail, but I failled and pushed the wrong button, so I guess flagged it isOops)

Confirmation that CCP uses alts to troll the forums?

While they very well may be doing that, what is meant here is the blue "dev response" badge in the thread overview that can be selectively activated.
Cleaning threads and trolling usually isn't highlighted.

dev alt spotted :)

Yes of course, and when/if something went wrong with redeeming gifts on Christmas day then there would be 300 developers at the office just to fix whatever issue... true. Roll

Bloody hell OP you gave me quite the scare. Luckily the neural remap gift gets applied automatically so I didn't miss out despite my forgetfulnees. Cheers CCP!

Am I the only one who didn't even bother redeeming any gifts from CCP? It's not like they're going to be valuable or have any impact in my gaming anyway.

Now if they offered me a free PLEX for all the crap they've made the player base put up with then that's another story.

Now the apologists and fanbois will run in screaming at you that you should have read every dev blog with a hidden blurb about gifts in and unrelated blog about something else, and paid attention to all the spam on log in screens. (which studies had shown very few people pay attention to things spammed ever day.) And noticed it on the news side bar which is usually filled with RP baloney not worth the time for most. And lets not forget they admit the majority of players dont use the forums at all. Twitter and FB? Lets hope the message didnt get bumped by other posts on those right?

But the fact remains they cant get around the fact that they did not EVE mail everyone. The most direct and sure way to get the message out to the players. While they didnt have problems doing so for the NEX store. This glaring point cannot be ignored.

Why no EvE mail message to tell players the details of the promo?

A promo that got messed up by changing the rules mid way then offering up the change after some of use had picked other things not knowing there was ever a remap option etc.

This was so terribly done even though i did get my gifts I will point out that it was done poorly. And defend those that missed it.

Fix your communication skills already.

I could only think of one thing when I read this.

Tadaaaaa

Btw. I also didn't redeem anything on any of my accounts. This not because I missed some sign but because I didn't see any need to redeem.

You are likely just messing with him. However if you are serious and forgot to redeem you can petition and the GMs will honor it. (Atleast the remap that I know of)

Edit: Forgot to say petition under billing and sub reactivation offers.
I'm not messing with himP
Of course my dev character doesn't need anything, but I forgot to pick my gift for my player character (and no, I didn't mean to write the forum post as that character, we can just post without it being flagged so much and that's what I meant to do P)

I don't want to petition it, because it was entirely my fault... I'm always on these forums, people around me were talking about it and I just knew what I had to do and didn't do it in tiime.... no need to add more work for my co-workers who are busy helping you guys Smile

i don't get it how the OP can be so arrogant to say that its ccp's fault that he forgot to request the present. If you are 12 i take it back, otherwise shut up, since if you would have read your mails, the login banner, devblogs, talked to people in-game or basically anything eve related you would have known what you have to do to get the gift.

+1 for the GMs who stay calm and answer petitions and threads like that while others are on holidays

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Frogger does require some thought process that the OP clearly dosen't have.

I missed it also like many others, I think.

I also thought Christmas gift is till 24th at least. Whats with orthodox Xmas? I do not read every dev blog or every banner exactly. So I missed the deadline and that I have to go to the account management page to pick a gift.

Btw. lovely trolling in here again. Some ppl really think they are the pride of creation ...
