The way followers of The Order are so evangelical I have classified CODE as a cult, much like Jehova's equally annoying and harmless.

What's not "evangelical" about social movements? Comfortably justified ideas adopted as the script recommends. Are they followed out of altruism or they are merely a satisfying excuse to avoid it?

Some ideas catch on, go viral and spread like wild fire, others get a few zealots trying to ram it down people's throats. Blink

Typically if you have folks soliciting you, you will wonder what they want from you instead of what they will give you. Social movements are no different from corporations in dimensions of agenda and greed. They are simply more cellular, and less monolithic.

What's strange is when you have people so devoted to some peaceful/beneficent social movement that they become aggressive about it. You know, approaching and blocking innocent strangers and demanding that the sign petitions, get on mailing lists, and of course donate money. The idea of the movement is peaceful and well-meaning, but the hardcore believers are as about as angry, militant, thick-headed and aggressive as any redneck fash-ist jackboot.

Humans.... some of them just don't try to get it, or even try to get it.

Anyway, an example of when members of a nice social movement sadly try to get a little too aggressive.... They should have listened to Gandhi and MLK maybe?

My wife and I lived happily for 25 years. Then we met.
-Rodney Dangerfield

Edit: A derail there.
I don't know mate, greed seems to be doing pretty well for itself. Getting more popular all the time and gaining new recruits from all around the world, by the minute. Some have the mentality and makeup to do well at it. Those ones don't seem to suffer many adverse consequences from it. A few twinges of guilt once in a while, for the more aware ones, but those can be rationalized away. But one unavoidable sad consequence is you end up with a reptilian/crocodile face at around age 50. Gym-toned body of a 30-year-old, best haircut, great clothes. You look great from behind, but... OMG can't hide the leathery crocodile face and mean look in the eye. The rehearsed flash-smile is on it's way, but-- too late.

(Results may vary, by location. The above are observations from the New York City, USA area).

Such a nice almost-Spring day here in New York, USA that I necroed this thread and wrote a haiku:

Snow still, in the shade
But in the sun, ya old grill
You're hotting up good

I wanted to add something about my yellow dog with pent-up winter indoor energy going crazy all over the yard on his rope toy. But there was no way to work that in in 5-7-5 syllables. Haiku has no tolerance for tl:dr long-arse meanderings.

In the shade, still

tldr

lies the old grill

tldr, tldr, tldr

the sun.

Nah, really, the tldr inside a haiku is so long it becomes breathing space.

That universe just keeps on expain-ding and expain-ding Smile

Edit: F-You American television. The premise of every commercial is every male is unfulfilled horny, and every female is a manipulative hotty. In some kind of backlit slow motion drama bar scene. Which never happens. Or some kind of stop-motion BMW urban getting-into-cars scenes. Which also never the feck ever ever happen.

That was on the Hockey Channel.

I hate to see what fecking equivalent is going on on the women's version of the Hockey Channel. Probably about the same level of mind-insulting crap. We are all impressionable, right?

I am talking about wide net advertising that you see constantly because it is too prolific. If I remember the brand, I boycott it for being annoying.

Sorry OP, I'm going to litter your thread with another haiku. This one is on the theme of the ephemeral and transient nature of all things. A common theme of samurai death poems.

"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."
-Tom Waits

Thinking about DNA-based evolution... So, a Cambrian worm's or more advanced bug arthropod's cells chemically arrange themselves into photo receptor cells. Proto-eyes. Happens over eons, of course. OK, but why have we never seen a fossil with proto-eyes on its back end? Or its underside?

If evolution is just a chemical reaction, repeated over quillions of generations--- where are the missing links? Why those eye lens just magically jumped to the front headlights area?

They died rapidly with few samples.
Rather ask, "Why have we found only one creature with eyes that work mechanically like a camera?"

But that goes against the human nature of choosing the familiar.

There's a reason advertising works.
