Are you looking for references to events and time frames in the game in particular? Or common phrases we understand?

I tend to be weird and need more specific questions or my mind explodes.


As far as events and such, update such as Scylla, Tiamat, Proteus and any references to changes related to those updates will have some consciousness by the community, especially those that were playing the game at the time those events occurred.

I would say both references to events and time frames and common phrases as they all are vital for community studies =)

These offerings aren't really a list of commonly used, or even commonly understood terminology in this game. If accuracy isn't important for a paper, I guess that's easily overlooked. The commonly used terms are the same used in all MMOs, and of course things like T2, or "shield tank, armor tank (my personal favorite) hull tank!" Most of these other terms are insider terms associated with cliques, and "I guess you had to be there" remarks, all of which would have to be explained to the majority of the player base.

An anthropological oddity would then be how these players really think these things are common parlance in the game. What they reveal is how cloistered players tend to become by hanging out with "people like me" (which is very prevelant in EVE) and dismissing or ridiculing "people not like me" (which is equally as prevelant.)

Given this, I somehow doubted the veracity of the OP's request. It seems if a degree in anthropology was reliant upon feedback from a narrow sampling of players as represented on this forum and especially in General Discussion, then it couldn't be a very prestigious degree.

I intend to amass a number of "terms", and then test them in EVE itself, this is just a preparation stage =)
