Securing your ships

What is generally accepted as being the best practice for securing your unused ships at a POS?

Some people have 4b isk capitals, do you you really just have them sat in a hangar so that anyone in corp can just take them?

I'm new to wh and pos life but in a month there have been lots of ships stolen by now ex-corp members.

I'd rather be blown up than someone steal my ships- at least i can try to fight back but not much i can do if they steal my ships whilst i'm at work. Now, i always log off sat in my most expensive ship, but it really puts me off having a good fleet of ships to be able to use when needed

Password-protected POSes, one person assigned a division in each tower. Drag ships from SMA to assigned division to store in an assembly array (Adv. Large have something like 19M m3 space).

A couple of obvious things will help. The first is to log off as much of the value as possible. Last task of the evening is to drag your ships into the carrier or orcas maintenance array and first task of the day is to drag them back out. Anything logged off cant be stolen. An orca alt can be trained rather quickly allowing even more tonnage to be kept safe.

The next obvious thing is to simply not allow other people to have the password to your pos. It might not be practical to go to that extreme but it is likely possible to have a small number of people at each tower; 5 or less is a good rule of thumb. Lots of towers each with its own password also makes an eviction a more painful endeavour; while it wont stop someone with a grudge it will ward off those who are looking for easy prey.

Good luck and welcome to wspace.

leave them floating at a safe spot that only you have bookmarked, ships cant be scanned out if theyre unmanned.

I never knew that. How long do they keep floating? Do I have to enter them once a month or something, like a container?

Yes. once a month. Timer is the same like for container.

Don't believe this guy, ships are containers. He just wants to steal your stuff. You can always put a cloak on your ships for extra safety of course.

oh good grief. Look if you fill the mid slots of ECCM for the ship type at your safespot, they'll prevent the ship from being combat probed out.

See every booster ship in Eve, and how ECCM and Combat Probing works, including the wiki.

.... edit.
Of course this is assuming the mod stays active when your pod leaves the ship Twisted

Stick it all in a carrier and log off - if you have more then 1 esc capital x dps and 1 PvE and 1 scanning ship your going to get robbed.

or trust your corp mates

Is that method actually used? You need 1 pos every 6 member if Im not wrong.

Since we are few people and our ships are not expensive we still share SMA, but we are looking for some method to keep ships more secure.

How do large wh corp manage it?

Thats exactly how larger WH corps do it, I cant speak for all of them, but most I know dont even use divisions. Screening applicants, and only allowing ones with good histories allows WH corps to trust eachother slightly more. So instead by breaking everyone into POSes they are "compartmentalized" such that if a thief did really get in, he has a limited amount of things he can steal.

Using LSA's to store ships is dangerous,a s they become locked if your tower is RFed, which means youll lose them. Ship hangars are not, and still allow for you to potentially evac, or use your ships while RFed.

Can I still eject if I have a combat timer though?

Will the combat timer still effect my pod, or just the unmanned ship?
