Animated Brackets

It has been known for a long time, but was brought up again during the artwork presentation at Fanfest that both players and devs dislike the way in which ship models simply disappear and get replaced by wreck models when a ship is destroyed. It was explained during the Q&A session after the presentation that this is a technical issue that currently does not have a solution, but is on the list of things the devs would like to improve. I would like to propose a temporary "solution" that should work well when zoomed out to a tactical view of the grid.

I would like to propose some very brief (1-2s) animations for the brackets representing destructible objects. Something simple on same sort of level as the animations in Asteroids™ would help reinforce the message that the target has actually been destroyed. Perhaps the bracket representing the wreck could then fade into view rather than simply appearing out of nowhere. This would convey the idea of the dust settling.

Brackets cause significant performance issues in large battles and it stands to reason that animated brackets would cause VERY significant issues under those circumstances. It would therefore be a good idea for this feature to have an on/off toggle in the client settings.

+1 to anything, even small steps, that gets us closer to actual ship destruction and damage animations

Thank you for your input, but please note that I have already addressed performance issues in the OP. As I'm sure you are aware, brackets can be turned off completely with just 2 clicks of the mouse. Next time you suffer from performance issues, I recommend you try it.
